D5 School Closure
School District Five schools to close Thursday as SC prepares for Hurricane Michael
IRMO— All schools and offices in Lexington-Richland School District Five will be closed Thursday (Oct. 11) in preparation for Hurricane Michael.
All district events including athletic events, field trips, Adult Education classes and other after school activities are also canceled Thursday. Adult Education classes for Wednesday, Oct. 10 have also been canceled.
The decision to close schools is being made out of an abundance of caution for the safety of our students, parents and staff as South Carolina prepares for the impacts of Hurricane Michael.
District leaders will continue to monitor the weather and road conditions closely to determine the status of school openings. The district is working closely with several agencies including emergency management and the National Weather Service to stay apprised of conditions.
Any future announcements will be made using the school district’s automated telephone system, the district website, social media and local media outlets.

HR Update regarding school closure
- During our school closure employees are not allowed to work onsite, with the exception of essential personnel who have been notified to report.
- Make up logs will be modified to indicate the additional make up date.
- Our school administrators will continue to use existing guidelines to approve make up time.
- As principal I am at liberty to approve time made up off-site during the closure. Make up time during the close should be documented with work done and time spent on said work.
- The deadline for making up time will be extended and announced soon.
Building Assessment
Later this afternoon Mr. Gantt and Mr. Epting will join me as we will assess our campus for potential damage. We will walk the perimeter of the school and examine each room inside. Our goal is to make sure that we do not return to any surprises that would compromise the safety and well being of the small and tall learners in our building.
Stay Tuned
Stay Safe
Finally we wish safety to each of you and your respective family/friends that may live in areas that are in direct path of this weather system.
We develop students who care about the world we live in and express critical thinking through natural curiosity and wonder.
