This Week at Gateway
Gateway Regional Community Newsletter-October 12, 2020
Principal's Message
Gateway Regional has received notification of a growing number of students with confirmed positive cases of COVID-19. The district is coordinating closely with local public health officials and following CDC, state, and local health department guidelines. Through contract tracing it appears these cases stem from an out-of-school event students attended. Anyone who is suspected of having been in close contact with a positive individual has been contacted directly. Unfortunately, due to the number of cases, we have had to quarantine students in our boys and girls soccer, girls tennis, and football programs for two weeks. These students must be quarantined for 14 days for both in-person school and sports regardless of whether or not they receive a negative test.
After conferring with local health officials, we are delaying in-person instruction for students in grades 9 through 12 until the week of October 19.
Gateway Regional still plans to open for in-person instruction for 7th and 8th grade cohorts on Tuesday, October 13. On Tuesday, students in Cohort A in grades 7 and 8, will report to school for periods 5 through 8. On Thursday, students in Cohort B in grades 7 and 8 will report to school for periods 1-4.
Please remember that starting on Tuesday, we will be switching to the hybrid bell schedule. The day begins promptly at 7:45 and ends at 12:17.
Again, students in grades 7 and 8 will report in-person with their cohort the week of October 13 and students in grades 9 through 12 will not report in person with their cohort until the week of October 19.
Students who are quarantined or absent from school because they are feeling under-the-weather, should report to their classes virtually to receive credit for attendance. If a student is going to report virtually on their cohort day, we ask that parents/guardians call the main office and let the school know that their child will report virtually. Any family who wishes to change their cohort should contact Mrs. O’Connell, Director of Guidance, at coconnell@gatewayhs.com to discuss.

Don't Stop Reading!
Can't come to the library, we will bring the library to you! Gateway Library is going remote. Every other week volunteers from the Gateway library will come to each town in our district and bring requested books along with a monthly take-away craft kit. Below you will find the schedule and location for our visit to each town along with instructions to order books. We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to get a book and make a craft!
GRHS Student Council Blood Drive
The GRHS Student Council will be hosting a community blood drive in partnership with The American Red Cross. Due to COVID-19, the ARC is in dire need for blood donations. Please consider donating if you're able, and you are 17 years or older, or you are 16 and have completed the appropriate parent permission forms. Contact Mrs. Adrienne Evans with any questions. Fall 2020 COVID-19 Athletic Spectator Protocols
Gateway's fall sports teams return to competition this week, beginning the abbreviated Fall 2020 season. As a result of restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, including the governor's executive order restricting the number of people at events, spectators at athletic events this fall will be extremely limited. In many cases, spectators will only include the families of our student-athletes.
For those attending our athletic events, please prepare in advance by becoming familiar with our spectator protocols that will be in effect this fall.
Please note that football tickets will not be available to students and the general public.
All home events that are played in the stadium, including all football games, all field hockey games, and select boys and girls soccer matches, will be streamed live on the NFHS Network, the nation's leading destination for live coverage of high school sports and events. Contests will also be available on demand following the conclusion of each competition. Fans are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to follow the Gators whenever they want from wherever they are! Click here for the full broadcast schedule and to start watching!
