Principal's Message
Dear Hallinan Families,
I keep asking myself, how can it possibly be Spring Break already?! Time is flying by. Whether you are flying or driving away, or staying home and enjoying what Oregon has to offer, I encourage you to make some time for reading. Our wonderful Librarian, Mrs Landau, has an amazing website with audio books, eBooks and online magazines. Visit the Hallinan Library Website for all the fun!
And, if you want some great car or dinner conversations, ask your children what books Mrs Landau read this month during Library time. This month she covered the following topics:
Read Across America
- The Book Hog by Greg Pizzoli (Grades Pre-K-2)
- Malala's Magic Pencil by Malala Yousafzai (Grades 3-5)
Cooperation - our character trait
- Bear Came Along by Richard T Morris (Grades Pre-K-2)
- 111 Trees, How One Village Celebrates the Birth of Every Girl by Rina Singh
Women's History Month
- Under my Hijab by Hena Khan (Grades Pre-K-2)
- Counting on Katherine by Helaine Becker
A quick but HUGE thank you to all of our parents and staff that organized and/or donated to the HOPES Foster Care Backpack Drive and the Hunger Fighter Drive. Our community's generosity is extraordinary and inspiring. Thank you for your great work on behalf of others!
And, now I am ready for a little rest and relaxation along with a few good books!
Have a safe and fun break. See you in April!

Hello Hallinan Families!
Slice of Gratitude
We are so thankful for our Fifth Grade Celebration Team Tracy DeOgny, Jocy Windsor, Kaili Monsef, Jenna Kaluza, Debi Panning, and Britt Marra. And we are incredibly grateful for fifth-grade mom and Art Auction Chair Barbara Carbone. These women have been doing amazing work all year, and when it comes to the fifth-grade celebration, all Hallinan kids will one day benefit from this continued tradition.
Fifth-grade Celebration Team Gift
We all know how important celebrating kids classroom achievements has been proven to be and graduating fifth grade is a huge scholastic milestone. Beyond raising funds to celebrate our graduating fifth graders, the Fifth-Grade Celebration Team raises money for a legacy gift(s) that will benefit kids still attending Hallinan. Fifth graders are given active opportunities to raise money throughout the year but not all that money goes to them. The fifth-grade legacy gift teaches kids the importance of being in service to others.
Art Auction Fundraiser
Thanks to the efforts of the fifth-grade moms who have been recruiting parents and organizing this event, AND thanks to each parent who is volunteering in their child's classroom, we will be having an Art Auction Fundraiser. Here is stuff to know:
- Each grade will complete a single piece of classroom art.
- Art will be displayed in the library leading up to Spring Carnival on May 31st.
- Art will be listed on an online bidding site.
- Bidding happens the same day as the Spring Carnival on May 31st.
- Stay tuned for more details.
This art project helps the Fifth Grade Celebration Team raise funds for a positive tradition, including the fifth-grade legacy gift. Leftover funds from their efforts are absorbed into the general PTO budget and used for another year. Maybe this is the start of a yearly tradition!
PTO positions are open!
If interested in a PTO board position, please email us with any and all questions!

YouthTruth Survey
Last call to provide your feedback in the YouthTruth survey! Please complete this anonymous survey by March 24: ytsurvey.org/losdfamily23. The survey will take about 15 minutes of your time, but the information gathered will be extremely valuable to us as we plan for next year and the future.
Please note:
The survey needs to be completed in one sitting.
We ask that one member of each household fill out the survey.
If you have more than one child who attends the same school, you may respond to the survey multiple times - one time per child.
If you write any comments, please do not include your name or anything else that might identify you. Your responses are anonymous, and they will be combined with the responses of other parents and guardians before being shared back with school and district leadership.
if you have any questions about the survey, or our plans for how we will use your feedback, please contact Principal Griffiths. Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. Your response is incredibly beneficial to us and will help us improve your child's school experience.
March Nurse News
Handwashing
While hand sanitizer is a great option, it cannot replace good handwashing. Be sure to wash your hands after using the restroom, sneezing or coughing, or touching your face to help keep our community healthy.
Allergies?
If your student has a health plan that includes an Antihistamine (Benadryl), please be aware that you must provide it. If your child has an allergic reaction or potential exposure to allergen and you have not provided it, we will have to call 911 per the regulations and guidelines of OHA/ODE/CCESD.
If you would like to speak to your school nurse, click the link below for contact information.
Seeking Volunteers for Our Advisory Committees
We need you! Please consider applying for our school or district advisory committee for terms starting next school year. There is one application for all committees -- please mark the committee that is of interest to you. Only committees with vacancies -- School Advisory Committees and Long Range Facility Planning -- are listed in the application for this period. See the charters posted on the School Board Advisory Committees web page for more information about each committee.
Applications are due Friday, April 7 at 5 p.m. Recommendations and selections will be made in April. All applicants will be notified by May 1.

Lake Oswego Public Library is Looking for Feedback
Do you want to help shape the future of the Lake Oswego library?
Visit the link below and provide any feedback before April 28th.
The City has embarked on a Library Visioning Process. Its purpose is to shape a community vision for the Lake Oswego library of the future. From now through May, that process will cast a broad net to engage the Lake Oswego community.
The goals of the visioning process:
- Create a shared community vision for the future of Lake Oswego Public Library
- Understand residents' current and future needs for library services, facilities, and amenities
- Determine the Library’s role to address community challenges and meet emerging needs
We seek input from everyone in the community to help ensure your library is serving your needs.
We hope you will participate with us in what promises to be a rich, enlightening, community-building experience, one that sets a vision for serving our community for future generations.
