Addressing, Packet and Protocols
What is a Protocol?
What is a Packet?
A Star Network
This Network is considered to be the most efficient and it used by the majority of big companies, this is because the information being given out goes directly from the original destination (e.g. One of the computers in the network or the Server) to the switch which sends it directly to the desired destination rather than having to go through all the computers like in a ring network.
A Ring Network
A Ring Network is the most basic and the worst of all the Networks, this is because it is not efficient and it is very easy to crash. A Ring Network, instead of efficiently sending the information to the selected computer, sends the information the every computer in the Network until it gets to the one that the information is for. After the computer has acted on the information sent to it by the Server it then has to reply, and once again the information has to go to every computer and other device until it gets to the server. This also means that only one computer can be talking with the server at a time because no more than one bit of information can be received by the server at a time. If one part of the Network crashes then the whole Network goes down because the information goes past every different bit of tech.
A Bus Network
A Bus Network is sort of a basic version of the Star Network the most obvious bits are the fact that if one of the computers crashes then the Network will stay running because the information does not have to pass through every computer to get round the network. However like the Ring Network the information does go to every computer like they are bus stops and every computer that the information is not needed for are like the empty bus stops that it has stop stop at anyway but nobody gets on, then the bus gets to the full bus stop which is the computer the information is designed for. The main down sides about this Network is that only one piece of information is able to go at a time because the information will get clogged up in the Network.
