8th Grade Science

Upcoming Tests
There will be an earthquake quiz (about 17 multiple choice questions and 3 extended response questions) on Monday, March 9th. This is an open note test and students were given a review guide on Tuesday. The review guide is due tomorrow. We will be going over the review guide and playing some review games tomorrow in class. There is also a Quizizz code available (an online review game). The code is: 048964.
On Tuesday will be the earthquake vocabulary quiz. The words are posted below. All students created flashcards on either notecards or on their iPad to help them study.
Earthquake Tower Project
We have just finished our unit on earthquakes. During this unit, I challenged students to create an earthquake-safe structure that can stay standing through 3 different magnitudes of earthquakes. This structure also had to hold a 250g bag of sand. We learned about earthquake safety and qualities of an earthquake-safe building. I was so impressed with the designs! We had 14 groups make it through all six levels! Check out some of the pictures below.
Late Work
If your son/daughter has any missing assignments they can turn them in by next Wednesday, March 11 for late credit. Everything is updated in Infinite Campus at this point. Please encourage them to get these assignments completed.
There are several assignments that will still go in the gradebook. They are the review guide, earthquake project, earthquake test and earthquake vocabulary quiz. Grades can still improve!
4th Quarter
It's hard to believe the 3rd quarter is almost over and we are starting the last nine weeks. For 8th graders, the 4th quarter can be a lot! We have trips, concerts, 8th grade party, finals and more. I will continue to email about missing work but I always feel this quarter is so important. It's important they wrap up their 8th grade career on a strong note and continue to work on responsibility, work ethic and problem-solving. Please encourage your son/daughter to continue working hard and finish on a high note!
