A Prayer for Teachers
God of Love, thank you for every teacher who notices a child’s special gift.
Thank you for teachers who are listeners and gentle guides.
Thank you for teachers who expect much and love enough to demand more.
Thank you for the special teacher each one of us remembers.
God of Mercy, sustain teachers who give everything they have and of whom society expects so much. Strengthen teachers who assume responsibility for so many circumstances beyond their control.
Refresh their spirits
God of Strength, encourage teachers to care and inspire them to nourish their students. Motivate teachers to continue learning and to make learning fun for children.
God of Justice, help our world find a way to steward our vast wealth to support teachers in their special calling, wherever they teach and whatever the race or religion or gender or wealth of the children.
We pray these things in the name of our great teacher, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers
We are enormously proud of the children who represented our school at the Interschool Athletic Carnival on Friday last week. Both on and off the field our students excelled. We received compliments on the children’s athletic prowess and their supportive and team-spirited behaviour. A special acknowledgement must go to our outstanding sports teacher, Ms Millen who coached the children to develop their athletic skills and set her expectations around behaviour to a very high standard. Well done to you all. Our team looked outstanding in their new OLOM Interschool shirts kindly sponsored by our P&F. Thank you, the children certainly felt a sense of belonging and pride wearing these shirts.
Team OLOM - World Teacher's Day
This Friday, we will celebrate and thank our staff for their tireless dedication and passion to our students and families, as we celebrate World Teachers’ Day. At OLOM, every member of staff is a valued educator, whether they are modeling positive relationships or good manners, imparting skills and knowledge or helping a child who is feeling sick. All our staff play a significant role in the lives of our students, their families and our community and we thank them for their big caring hearts.
We have some special news to announce. Our Pre-Primary teacher, Mrs Catalano is pregnant and will be taking parental leave from next year. We wish her all the very best as her pregnancy progresses and we know the new addition to her family will bring much joy.
You may be familiar with the Netflix series ‘Squid Game’. This is rated MA 15+ and is not suitable for children. Some of our students are playing ‘Squid Games’ at school. While these games appear to be simple games similar to the well-known games of 'Statues' and 'What’s the Time Mr Wolf', the Squid Game version uses the commands of red light/green light and the penalty may be the student pretending to die as the consequence of being out. These games can also be played on digital platforms such as Roblox and Minecraft and Squid Game content is also being shared on TikTok. Parents/carers can ensure that their children are not able to access the Netflix series by setting up age appropriate profiles through Netflix Parental Controls and closely monitoring what their children are accessing on social media.
God is faithful and has blessed us in so many ways but we often take these blessing for granted. Many times we face challenges that are beyond our means to resolve, but if we place our trust in God, the Holy Spirit will guide us. When we place our focus on the things of this world, these distractions become our idols, whether it be our work, our homes or social media. This week I encourage all of you to simply start your day focusing your attention on God, handing your day over to our Lord and opening your hearts to the One who holds us. ‘I can’t Lord, but you can’.
God bless you all.
