September at a Glance

This month has flown by! Our students have settled back into the routine of learning and there are lots of great things happening in our classrooms. Our teachers work hard to create engaging and thoughtful lessons, and the learning that takes place in all of our classrooms is outstanding.

It is great to see all of our sports teams finding success, and we are looking forward to a great season. Thank you to all the community coaches who have volunteered their time to support our students. We couldn't do it without you.

The end of September and the first of October is a very busy time in the school. We have lots of special events coming up, and we encourage you to keep up to date on all school activities by checking the school calendar on our website! We are currently in the planning stages for some community-building activities and we are hopeful that they can take place soon.

As always, if you have any questions about the school, please don't hesitate to reach out to myself or Ms. Koleba, as we would both be very happy to help you in any way we can.

Terry Fox Run - Thursday, Sept 29th

On Thursday, September 29, 2022, students will be taking part in the annual Terry Fox School Run. Our fundraising goal this year is $13.00 per student about 2500. That is 1 dollar for each province and territory. Terry’s Goal was to run across Canada and for every Canadian to donate $1 dollar to cancer research. If we meet this goal as a whole school the students will receive; in elementary a movie in the music room and the secondary students get to wear hats all day.

Each student will receive a sticker to wear that reads: I’M NOT A QUITTER I AM RUNNING FOR ________. Please have a conversation with your child about who they might run for from your family/friends.

Together, we can all make a difference. We are very excited to be a part of this year’s Terry Fox Run. This is our opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those suffering from cancer. We hope you will join us as our school community bands together in the fight against cancer. Thank you in advance for your support!

Truth and Reconciliation - Orange Shirt Day

September 30th has been declared Orange Shirt Day annually, in recognition of the harm the residential school system did to children's sense of self-esteem and well-being, and as an affirmation of our commitment to ensure that everyone around us matters.

As a school, Hay Lakes students and staff are encouraged to wear Orange Shirts on Thursday, Sept. 29th. We will have other activities throughout the year dedicated to teaching students about Truth and Renconciliation.

Athletic Practice and Game Times

Our coaches have shared game and practice times with the athletes, but if you are unsure of the times, please check our school website as we are attempting to keep the calendar as up to date as possible.

Pancake Breakfast

Thank you to our staff members who cooked up a fantastic pancake breakfast on September 16th!
