A variety of Collaborative tools besides Google
Collaboration is a critical twenty-first-century skill for our students. Finding ways to facilitate and support collaboration in the classroom is not always easy.
This post contains 15 collaborative tools for your classroom that are NOT Google.
Do you Teach Social Studies?
1. Crash Course - There's a video for just about every topic in US History, World History, Economics, Government, and even Psychology. They are entertaining and stuffed full with information about each topic. The videos are usually between 10-15 minutes long.
2. Mr. Betts Class - He has music videos for US and World History that are completely goofy, but with great content and students LOVE them!
3. Laughing Historically - Because who wouldn't want Third Parties explained by Star Wars?! Only venture here if you have some time on you hands because there are so many awesome videos here, you'll find yourself binge-watching them all!
4. Disney The American Presidents - So far, they have videos for George Washington, John Adams, James Monroe, John Quincy Adams, Andrew Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Lyndon B. Johnson, and Richard Nixon. Each run a little over 3 minutes long and your students will much rather watch these than that *cough* other president video you were going to show.
5. Vlog Brothers - Another great channel by John and Hank Green (yes, the Crash Course guys and how did I not connect that the Crash Course John Green is the same Fault in Our Stars John Green?! Anyway, I digress...). I am loving their current How to Vote in Every State series and their videos that explain complicated current events.
Thanks to the Musings of a History Gal for these resources.

Wakelet: an awesome tool
I discussed Wakelet last week but had not really used it yet, well, I have been playing with it and am quite excited about the possibilities of Wakelet for its use in the classroom and even for students to use.
Share articles, videos, images, tweets and other great content with one link. Save them for later and create collections, called wakes, at any time.
- Save: Use Wakelet to save links to great content that you find online – articles, videos, blogs, tweets, sound files and much more. Adding items is easy. Just copy and paste the links or add them straight from our browser extension.
- Curate: Arrange your saved items into stunning collections called wakes. Wakes can be public or private and created on any topic - share a passion, promote your business, or gather research. You can also make your wakes personal by adding notes, reordering items, changing layouts and much more.
- Share: Wakes can be shared anywhere online, either with a single link or by embedding them using an embed code. It’s easy to share your wakes with your friends, family and colleagues… or even the world!
- just like the wakes that boats and planes create, every wake you create leaves a path for others to follow.
- Wakes show progress, easily help you build stories and ensure that the content you spent time finding is never buried or lost.

So... what’s a wake? Wakes are stunning story-like collections of content curated by people like you.Just like the wakes that boats and planes create, every wake you create leaves a path for others to follow.
