Morning Message
Good Morning and Happy Mindset Monday!
Did you know that your brain is like a muscle? The more you use it, the stronger it gets. Well, starting today we will build stronger brains as we learn about plants, animals, and how they work together. Get ready for your brain muscles to get “pumped!”
Literacy
Description of Work:
This week you are going to be a researcher! You will be thinking and discovering new information about animals. We have set up some online resources for you, but you may have books at home that you can use too. As you read, you will be taking notes and drawing illustrations. By the end of the week you will put your learning together to share with us. You might write a book or draw a poster or make a video telling us about what you’ve learned. You will be doing this same project all week so take your time and learn a lot!
First watch the BrainPopJr video on reading non-fiction.
Remember to think about these things when reading non-fiction:
What did I read that confirmed my thinking? What’s something I already knew about this animal?
What did I read that was new information? What surprised me about this animal?
How has my thinking changed from reading this book?
What new questions do I have now?
Spend 15-20 minutes researching different animals. Maybe you have books at home you can use or you can go on PebbleGo to find information. Look and read about many different animals before picking the one you want to research.
Resources Needed:
Classlink
BrainPop Jr, Reading Nonfiction
Pebble Go
As you read this week you might want to have a journal with you to take notes. Any paper can become a journal! Staple 3 - 4 pieces together and put a cover on it. You will be adding information to it as you read. You can make a GoogleDoc Report or a Paper Report - you decide!
Ms. Buckley and Mrs. Linse made videos to remind you how to start a GoogleDoc and add images. You can also ask a trusted adult to help you.
Today make a list of some of the animals you read about. What are some things you want to know about them? Maybe you have these questions:
What does it look like
Where does it live
What does it eat
Fun facts
I bet you have other ideas too!
Stretch out your words and spell the best you can.
If you choose to do a Google Doc you can share what you learned with your teacher by clicking the blue “Share” button in the top corner and typing their last name.
If you write a Paper Report take a picture on Seesaw.
Word Work/Vocabulary
Description of Work:
This week you will continue to work on sight words. You will also be learning about syllables and compound words. Watch the compound words video, to learn about compound words before you start those activities this week. Have fun.
Compound Words and Syllables
Choose 1 choice each day this week from the list below to practice compound words and syllables. Youngers may want to start with the syllable practice and then try a challenge later in the week with compound words.
Activities:
Pick 5 new words each day this week and practice them (just like last week). There are new activities to choose from this week. Pick your words from your word wall chart or words your family wants you to practice. Choose a new way to practice each day:
Make lego words
Use magnetic letters
Build them with twigs or lincoln logs
Build them with playdough
Use an easel to spell them
Write your words with chalk outside
IT'S BRAIN BREAK TIME!!!
