LIECK REUNITED! Parent Edition
August Newsletter- Welcome back to School!
INSTRUCTIONAL SCHOOL DAY: 7:45 A.M. - 3:10 P.M.
Welcome Back Lieck Families!
We are excited that the first day of school is finally upon us! We hope that you and the family had a restful and relaxing summer and are ready for the new school year to begin. The Lieck Elementary staff has been working hard preparing for student return and they are excited to begin. We are honored to be able to serve and support the Lieck community and we are committed to providing a high level quality education to your child. Thank you for choosing Lieck as your elementary school, the best in NISD!!
On the eve of the new school year, we realize that there are many uncertainties and questions that you may have. Please rest assured that your child’s health and safety continues to be our number one priority. Recently the NISD Board of Trustees voted to implement a temporary face mask mandate for all students, staff, and visitors while indoors at district facilities and on school buses. This mandate goes into effect Monday, August 23rd. In addition, we will continue to implement safety guidelines on our campus that include frequent cleaning and sanitizing, social distancing when possible and the use of plexiglass where appropriate.
Although the safety and health of our students is in the forefront of all of our minds, our school mission states, "Every day, Lieck Lions grow through quality and meaningful experiences." One of our realities is that the pandemic has impacted the academic progress of our students in different ways and in different content areas. Our teachers have been working through the summer months to develop plans to support our learners. Our campus efforts will focus in closing achievement gaps in both reading and math.
To support our goals in math, we are excited to have had the opportunity of hiring a full time Math Staff Development Support Teacher, Mrs. Petty. With her support we will be able to further develop our teachers in math through our Professional Learning Community (PLC) and in turn help overall student achievement. In the area of reading we also have a full time Literacy Leader, Ms. Trevino. She too helps teachers plan through effective teaching strategies and teacher collaboration. As part of Professional Learning Communities (PLC) teachers collaborate with one another to plan for meaningful and engaging lessons, monitor student progress and create effective plans for intervention or enrichment.
Additionally this year we will really focus on utilizing our campus wide intervention block from 8:00-8:30 where teachers will plan for targeted intervention and enrichment. "Rise and Shine" time will be Monday - Thursday and students will be working on their goals in the area of reading and math. Online research based intervention programs that will be available to students throughout the year will include iStation, Imagine Math & ST Math.
This year we will also delve into supporting the whole child by providing daily Social Emotional Lessons through our daily morning meetings. Our guidance counselors, Mrs. Zigmond and Ms. Garza, will provide meaningful lessons to all grade levels and are also available to meet with students in small groups and one on one as needed.
To assist you in understanding our instructional programs and expectations, we encourage you to join us for our PTA/ Parent Orientation Day 1 Wednesday, September 8th (ALE, PreK, Kinder, 2nd & 4th & GT) & Thursday, September 9th (1st, 3rd & 5th & GT) from 4:30-6:15 PM. (The 1st session will be from 4:30-5:15pm and the 2nd session will be from 5:30-6:15pm.) We hope to see you there as to better support your child and their progress in school.
We look forward to a great partnership with our families. Neither of us can do it alone, and it has been said before... we are FAMILY and we are STRONGER TOGETHER!
Thank you for taking the time to carefully read our newsletter. We are looking forward to a GREAT year!
Ms. Jessica Garza

Parents, you are welcome to walk your child to class during the first two days of school however effective Day 3 our staff will guide your child to their classroom thereafter. You can drop off your child curbside or at the door and our staff will take over from there.

NISD HEALTH GUIDELINES
NISD will continue to follow the recommendations and guidance issued by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) as well as local public health guidance. We anticipate changes and modifications will continue throughout the school year in order to provide the safest situation possible for our students, families and employees.
- As we head into the 2021-2022 school year, the changing health metrics are closely monitored. District plans include a continued emphasis on sanitation and cleaning of all facilities and physical distancing when possible. Facemasks will be highly encouraged, but as directed by the Governor's Executive Order issued May 18, 2021, cannot be mandated for students or staff. Likewise, we may not compel an individual to disclose whether or not they have received COVID-19 vaccinations.
- Routine and frequent cleaning and disinfecting will continue. Frequent handwashing will also be encouraged with hand sanitizer available for students and staff.
- In the event of positive cases of COVID-19, we will follow recommended CDC guidelines for contact tracing and quarantining. We continue to monitor local health conditions and any changes to these guidelines will be communicated.
Student devices for the new school year
As we prepare for students returning to school in the 2021-22 school year, we have worked to ensure that we can provide every student with a Northside device to participate in classwork. Northside will make a device available to every student in the district unless the parent communicates that a device is not needed. After reading the Technology Loan Agreement, if your child does not need a device please complete the NISD Device Lending Agreement form on nisd.net/parents. If you opt out of a Northside device for your student(s) and wish to switch to a district-issued device at any time, you will need to revisit the NISD Device Lending Agreement on nisd.net/parents to change your selection.
Thank you for partnering with us in your child’s education. If you have any questions about student device check out, please contact your child’s campus for more information.
Buses and Boundaries
Northside ISD assigns students to schools according to the street address where the student resides. Our Boundaries and Buses Information System will provide you with the name and address of the schools serving your area. Just enter the student’s street number and street name to search for school assignment, bus route information, and any future Board adopted boundary changes.
For general boundary information, attendance area maps for each elementary, middle & high schools are listed on the campus sites.
While one-on-one communication is the best, in a district as large as Northside ISD it is sometimes difficult. Because we want our parents to stay informed, NISD has several ways that parents and other interested citizens can stay informed about the successes and challenges of San Antonio’s premier school district of choice, as well as find out news about their children’s schools.
