GRE Staff Newsletter
January 1, 2020
Dear Team,
Happy New Year! I hope that you have had the very best Winter Break yet! I took time to slow down and catch my breath. I spent some much needed time with my family, read two books (no, they weren't work related:), worked out, cooked homemade dinners, and just slowed down. It was amazing!
The New Year is always filled with so many emotions for me. I usually spend a few days before New Year's Eve really thinking and reflecting about what I am proud of, what hardships I've overcome, where I still need to grow or mature, and what I hope and dream for the year to come. This year I'm forcing myself to write out my intentions for the year with a goal to come back to it often and monitor my progress. I hope you find time to reflect on 2019 and make some decisions about how to make 2020 your best year!
While we appreciate the time winter break gives us, it can sometimes be difficult to come back. It's not that we aren't excited to see our students and each other but leaving our babies, pets, loved ones and all that break gives us can be really difficult. I get it. I feel it too. That's why I've left New Year goodies on your desk and will have Tim Horton's for you in the lounge tomorrow morning and a fun photo booth to take your class to outside of the cafeteria. Let's lift each other and our students up with some great New Year spirit!
I can't wait to see you tomorrow!
Kate
PS-Let's kick off the second half of the year with our Adventure Awaits shirts and jeans! Here's to our next adventure!

1. Check out some of the ideas below if you are looking for some New Year ideas for your students. This is a great time to reflect and set some goals with students for the second half of the year.
2. Our PBIS committee has talked about how important it is to reteach the behavior matrix often. Please make sure you are talking with your students, modeling (yes, you've done it 100 times, but it does work), addressing issues when they come up and keeping a focus on what we expect. Morning meeting is a great time to review our expectations. If you want or need help highlighting anything, please reach out to Katie or I. We love morning meeting!
3. Next Tuesday, we will have our January staff meeting. That means we will be discussing chapter 4 from Power of Our Words on Schoology. Look in next week's newsletter for the notes, discussion question, and visual.
4. It's almost time...time for the GREatest Staff Holiday Party! If you are planning to participate in this years Holiday party, please get your money to Kate by Monday 1/6/19. As a reminder it's $46 per person. Light refreshments will be provided. We will be having the team draft Monday afterschool-be there or be square. Please email Kate to confirm you are still planning on attending...since someone did not remember to collect names on the initial survey (duh, Kate).
5. Literacy/STEM Night will be held on January 16th from 6-7PM. We would love to have some more teammates on our committee. Click here to sign up (or to see if you signed up to be on this committee:)
