Principals' News
We have so much to be thankful for and this time of year reminds us of just that! We hope that you and your families and friends have a very healthy and happy Thanksgiving break. As a reminder, there will be no school beginning on Wednesday, November 23rd through Friday, November 25th due to the holiday. Eat well! Enjoy the Macy's Day Parade and some football and read a good book or two!
Weather
The weather forecast shows warm air and sunny skies for most of the rest of this week, but the temperatures next week will be dropping and we might even see some snowflakes. Please remember to dress your child in layers, so they are prepared for the ever changing weather that Mother Nature brings us!
We do try to get the students outside on the playground every day that we can! As we move into the new season, have them prepared with warm coats, hats and gloves. When the snow comes boots and snow pants are also necessary for our outdoor play. It's always a good idea to keep an extra pair of dry socks in backpacks as a backup!
Thank you again for sharing your children with us!

Joyful Rescues Donations
Students in Ms. Allocco’s Animal Rescue After School Program will be learning about animal rescue and ways they can help. Joyful Rescues, a 501(C)(3) non profit organization, has currently begun their Holiday Donation Drive. The students in the program will be helping to spread the word about the donation drive by making posters and flyers to send home with Klem South students. A collection box will be put in the main lobby at the beginning of December. While collections are accepted all year long, the Klem South collection box will remain in the school lobby until Christmas break. Please feel free to contact Ms. Allocco at janice_allocco@webstercsd.org with any questions.

SENIOR CITIZENS’ DAY THANK YOU
On Thursday, October 20, your board of education was pleased to welcome approximately 475 Webster CSD community members to the 45th Annual Senior Citizens’ Day at Webster Schroeder High School. This is always a much anticipated and highly enjoyable event; this year was no exception. Our guests enjoyed entertainment provided by Webster Schroeder’s and Webster Thomas’ student musicians, fantastic door prizes, and a delicious turkey dinner. Above all, there was great camaraderie among our guests and the student volunteers who served their meals. We would like to express our sincere thanks to the Webster CSD Food Services department and to all district personnel and volunteers who work to make this day so special.
If you know of a senior citizen who is a resident of Webster CSD and would like to receive an invitation for next year’s Senior Citizens’ Day, please contact Jenifer Calus, WCSD Communications Aide, at 216-0101, or Jenifer_Calus@webstercsd.org, and she will be happy to add them to the database of invitees.
WEBSTER CSD’S CAPITAL PROJECT - COMMUNITY VOTE REMINDER
The Webster CSD community will head to the polls on Tuesday, December 13, to vote on a proposed capital project that will touch physical features of all 11 school buildings in the district. The project, not to exceed $43.5 million, will be voted on at Webster Schroeder High School, 875 Ridge Road, from 6:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m., the same location where annual budget votes are held. If you would like to learn more about the proposed project, which includes, among many other items, the replacement of outdated boilers, a new Spry Middle School cafetorium, and an updated media center at Webster Thomas High School, please visit websterschools.org/capitalproject.
It’s important to note that the project would be bonded over a 20-year timeframe with 70-75 percent of the cost delivered through state aid. The impact on the average homeowner ($172,200 in Webster) is expected to be $20-$25 per year over the 20 years of the bond.
Thank you in advance for exercising your right to vote on Tuesday, December 13.

News from the Health Office
Hello!
New Students to Webster screenings is almost done! I am beginning to screen students for Vision and Hearing who have not had this done by their doctors. If your child does not pass I will call to notify you that a letter will be coming home in your child’s backpack indicating the test results to bring to the appropriate health care provider.
I will be doing Scoliosis Screenings for our 5th graders during PE probably starting in March for those who have not had this screening done by their physicians. If your 5th grader has had a physical please send it in to the Health Office!

There are many links and pages you may click on for not only cold weather information but many other important health information sites!
Reminders:
Please send in to the Health Office any physicals you child may have during the school year.
With weather changing over from rain to snow kids could get wet, consider sending in a change of clothes.
Gently used pants and underwear would be appreciated as my supply is running low for those students who do not have changes of clothes.
Feel free to call or email me with any health concerns you may have for your child.

News from the District Health Office
Those Lousy Bugs:
Head lice are always in season, even more so as the weather gets colder.
Head lice are also an equal opportunity pest.
If your child is scratching his/her head, you may want to check for lice.
Other symptoms may include:
a tickling feeling or a sensation of something moving in the hair;
irritability and sleeplessness;
sores on the head caused by scratching. These sores caused by scratching can sometimes become infected with bacteria normally found on a person’s skin.
Head lice are transmitted through brushes, pillows, towels, hats and head-to-head contact. Please remind your children:
Avoid head-to-head (hair-to-hair) contact during play and other activities at home, school, and elsewhere (sports activities, playground, slumber parties, camp).
Do not share clothing such as hats, scarves, coats, sports uniforms, hair ribbons, or barrettes.
Do not share combs, brushes, or towels. Disinfest combs and brushes used by an infested person by soaking them in hot water (at least 130°F) for 5-10 minutes.
Do not lie on beds, couches, pillows, carpets, or stuffed animals that have recently been in contact with an infested person.
Control of the environment is the greatest factor in preventing re-infestation. Head lice cannot live away from their human host for more than 24 hours. Nits take 7-10 days to hatch, another 7-10 days to mature and live approximately 30 days on a host. Lice cannot live on pets. Steps to control the environment include:
Machine wash and dry clothing, bed linens, and other items that an infested person wore or used during the 2 days before treatment using the hot water (130°F) laundry cycle and the high heat drying cycle. Clothing and items that are not washable can be dry-cleaned OR sealed in a plastic bag and stored for 2 weeks.
Vacuum the floor and furniture, particularly where the infested person sat or lay. However, spending much time and money on housecleaning activities are not necessary to avoid reinfestation by lice or nits that may have fallen off the head or crawled onto furniture or clothing.
Do not use fumigant sprays or fogs; they are not necessary to control head lice and can be toxic if inhaled or absorbed through the skin.
Webster Central School District is a No-Nit District. Nits are laid by live lice. If nits are identified, the student must go home. Consult your healthcare provider for appropriate treatment. The student will not be allowed back in school until all nits are removed. A parent/guardian must accompany the student to school the next day (do not send on the bus) so the school nurse can check the student’s hair for nits. If any are present, the student must go home.
When the student re-enters school, the school nurse will check for nits at 7, 10, 14, 21 and 30 days.
