Mrs. Walters News
Happy Labor Day Weekend Everyone!
Week two was just as spectacular as the first. Our students are quickly learning how to work as a team with their classmates and how to navigate through the building and through their day. Great work Bushnell Bears!
During the month of August, our teachers will be introducing our students to PBIS. PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS). This promotes positive behavior in all areas at Bushnell. Staff members will recognize positive student behavior with Bear Bucks. Students will be able to use these tickets to earn positive consequences (lunch with teacher, toys/trinkets, extra recess time, etc). We want ALL students at Bushnell to be Respectful, Responsible and Safe and we plan on bringing attention to these all year long!
All Bushnell students will be taking the Acadience Reading assessment over the next month. This assessment measures sound and reading fluency. Our 1st grade students will also be taking the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) Measurement of Academic Progress (MAP) assessment in the next few weeks. This is a norm reference test that compares our students with students across the United States in the areas of math, reading, and language arts. We use this data to help set goals with our students. Our teachers also use this data to help differentiate lessons within their classroom; providing remediation to students who need help, and challenges to students who may be at a higher level than the grade level expectations. You will receive your child’s test results within the next month. If you have any questions about these MAP scores, please do not hesitate to call me. You can also go to the MAP website: www.nwea.org to learn more about this assessment.
ALL meals are free this year! That being said, we encourage families that qualify to fill out a free/reduced lunch application anyway. The website to apply is located at https://lowell.familyportal.cloud/application/terms Click on 'Apply for Benefits.' You can also pick up a paper application at school or ask that one be put in your child's backpack.
The Bushnell PTO needs YOU!
- Throughout the school year, the PTO will be asking for help in providing meals during times that teachers and staff will need to work extended hours, on top of their normal school day (such as during Parent-Teacher Conferences and Professional Development Days).
- Keep an eye out in future Weekly Newsletters for PTO requests for items needed for those meals, as well as opportunities to volunteer at the school throughout the year!
- One little way that we try to show our appreciation for all those that work at Bushnell, is by blessing them with fun drinks in their break room. If you would ever like to donate bottled or canned beverages to the building staff (i.e. bottled water, flavored water, soda pop, iced coffee, etc.), the Bushnell Office staff will happily deliver it to the break room for all to share. :)
- Check out the flyer below for more details about the PTO, or email with any questions at PTO.Bushnell@gmail.com
