EOC Testing (April 26)

Plano East parents-

On Wednesday, April 26, we will once again host entire grade level high stakes tests- this time the STAAR US history end of course exam (11th grade) and biology exam (9th grade). The exam schedule will impact each grade level differently:

12th grade- Seniors will remain at home until lunch time so that we can deploy the entire staff in the management of testing. Seniors can return to campus for lunch but should arrive no later than either 11:45 or 12:41 depending on whether their 4th period class meets during 4A or 4B (see below). Please note- some seniors are scheduled to take the TSI exam and/or the US history EOC re-test. Those seniors and their families have been contacted regarding this testing assignment.

11th grade- All juniors will sit for the US history EOC. They should arrive on campus no later than 8:45 so that they can be in their assigned testing classroom by 9 AM.

10th grade- Sophomores will work with their regular classroom teachers in alternative classroom settings. We will communicate to our sophomores about their unique morning schedule.

9th grade- Freshmen will sit for the STAAR EOC biology exam. They should arrive on campus no later than 8:45 so that they can be in their assigned testing classroom by 9 AM.

All 9th & 11th grade students MUST bring their charged Chromebook and charger to take the exam.

Please remember that Texas high school students must pass their end of course exams as a requirement for graduation. As always, please contact me with questions/concerns.

Final Exam Grade Waiver and Final Exam Exemption Guidelines

Final Exam Grade Waiver

Applies to 9 th, 10th, and 11th grade AP and IB

Students enrolled in an AP or IB course for the second semester of the school year

may be eligible for a grade waiver from the final exam in that subject for the

second semester if the following conditions exist:

  • A minimum overall 2nd semester average of 80 (per class) and a minimum
grade of 80 in the fourth-9 week grading period.
  • Students must take the National AP or International IB exam for that course
    in May.
  • Students shall have no more than eight (8) absences during the second
semester (per class) beginning on January 23, 2023.
  • Students absent due to COVID or quarantine (as documented by the
school nurse) will not be penalized.
  • Students attending school sponsored events will not be penalized.
  • Students shall have no more than five (5) tardies in that AP or IB class.
  • No major infractions resulting in ISS, Saturday School, Out of School
    Suspension, or Special Programs Center.
  • Students must have no outstanding fines, fees, or debts for school property
    or other PISD services.
  • Students must take the semester exam on the date/time originally scheduled
or, in the case of an excused absence, during the determined make-up exam
    time.

To qualify for the grade waiver, a student must report to class on the day of the

exam and take the final exam for the course. If the semester exam grade benefits

the student, it will be recorded and counted toward the student’s course grade.

If a student has an unexcused absence during the exam, the student forfeits the

option to take advantage of the exam grade waiver, and will take the exam for

credit.

Final Exam Exemption

Applies to 12th Grade Students

Seniors may qualify for exemption from final exams during the second semester of

the school year if the following conditions exist:

  • A senior in an AP or IB class must meet the criteria noted above to qualify for
exemption in that AP/IB class or
  • A senior in an AP course who chooses not to take the national exam may also
qualify for the final exam exemption if all of the requirements for the Senior
    Exemption Guidelines are met.

For seniors in all other classes:

  • A minimum overall 2nd semester average of 85 (per class) and a minimum
grade of 85 in the fourth-9 week grading period.
  • Students shall have no more than eight (8) absences during the second
semester (per class) beginning on January 23, 2023.
  • Students absent due to COVID or quarantine (as documented by the
school nurse) will not be penalized.
  • Students attending school sponsored events and college visits will not
    be penalized.
  • Students shall have no more than five (5) tardies in each class.
  • No major infractions resulting in ISS, Saturday School, Out of School
    Suspension, or Special Programs Center.
  • Students must have no outstanding fines, fees, or debts for school property
    or other PISD services.

To qualify for the exam exemption, a student must be present in class for each

exam. Various activities will be conducted at this time for students qualified to use

exemptions, including the completion of course evaluations, student surveys, and

projects.

Exempt students may choose to take the exam. If the semester exam grade

benefits the student, it will be recorded and counted toward the student’s course

grade.

If a student has an unexcused absence during the exam, the student forfeits the

option to take advantage of the exam exemption, and will take the exam for credit.

PESH ID Expectations

  • It is the expectation of Plano East, Plano ISD, and the state of Texas that students wear their Plano East ID badge every day.
  • If a student has lost his/her badge, we can print them a new one! 😊 They should come to the Alpha Office (B2-109) before school (8:00 to 8:45), during the beginning of A lunch (11:45 to 12:15) or at the end of B lunch (1:15 to 1:30).
  • Students do not need to scan anything any longer. When a student shows up to the Alpha office during those hours, we are able to print the badge immediately.
  • We highly encourage the students to bring $5 cash or check. It makes the process so much easier. However, we can also charge your student account for you to pay online.
  • Finally, teachers are being asked to report students who are consistently not in compliance. Please know that not wearing an ID badge may lead to the loss of senior/AP/IB exemptions as well as disciplinary consequences.
