Ripon Cathedral School Update

Week ending Friday 15th June 2018

Big picture

This week we welcomed children and staff from our partner school CEIP Fray Juan de la Cruz, Aneja, Segovia. It is a real community event. The children are staying at Guide HQ, Hazel House and sleeping on camp beds provided by 21 Engineers. On Thursday, they spent a day in school learning what an English school is like and making friends. On Friday the children walked to Fountains Abbey and had a lunchtime picnic at Studley. They return to Spain next Wednesday but in the meantime have a packed programme, including a visit to the Forbidden Corner on Monday. We'll give you a further update next week.

Welcome back Mr Dan!

We were delighted to welcome Mr Dan back into school on Monday. Last term we had energetic skipping workshops, and this time we learnt how to use French skipping elastics and how to spin plates!

The Big Write

Our Year 5 children took part in a Big Write class today in Harrogate with other schools from the area. They used the World Cup as inspiration for some creative writing. Everyone worked so hard and are justifiably very proud of themselves. Here is a great example of imaginative, descriptive writing:

Silence filled the stadium, the only thing I could hear was the whirling, wispy wind above me in the night sky. Anticipating glory and fearing guilt, goose bumps rose upon my back and spine. The wind was harder to hear now as sweat poured down my body like a waterfall pouring down into a river.

I smelt the fresh, well cut grass that has been torn up by the vicious studs that lay beneath the player’s boots. I tasted the cold breath of the fans that surrounded me. I couldn’t let them down.

I had to forget my fears, it was time. I anxiously stepped up to take the penalty. I heard that fans roar, I ran up, I struck the ball, I closed my eyes… where did it go?

Looking forward to the summer at Oscar's!

After a brilliant couple of days in the May half term holidays enjoying a bouncy assault course and mini sports with trophies to win, we are already looking forward to running Oscar's in the first two weeks of the summer holidays. Mr Biggs, who leads PE here and whom the children all love, will be running more sports activities in the first week (days to be confirmed) and we're sure to book another bouncy castle one day. Other plans include possibly getting back Mr Dan of skipping and plate spinning fame, or maybe an archery day or some drama workshops. Please feel free to give us some feedback on what your child would like to do!

Online booking will be available when we have finalised the programme of events. If you haven't used our easy online service before, click this link, use your email as your username and click forgotten password to get yourself set up! Our holiday club runs from 9am to 5pm, 23rd July to 2nd August and costs only £20 for a full day including activities.
