Standardized Testing Begins next week
All 2nd grade students take the INVIEW assessment. It is helpful in identifying strengths and weaknesses in reading and math. There are 5 paper/ pencil timed tests, we will do 1 or 2 tests each day, Monday- Thursday. Please make sure your child is on time to school, well rested, and has eaten a good breakfast each day.
Field Trip Info- Thursday, Jan. 31st
Our trip to see The Lion King, Jr. is Thursday, Jan. 31st. Your child will need to bring a lunch that day. We will be eating in the classroom. Those who need to buy milk may do so. If your child is part of the free and reduced lunch program, the cafeteria can prepare them a sack lunch for that day. Typically it is PBJ, some carrots, a fruit and milk.
We will be doing math and reading in the morning, have a mini recess, then eating lunch and leaving for the musical. We will be back to Converse in time for special classes at the end of the day.

Help Wanted for Wax Museum Research!
In a few weeks we are going to begin our wax museum research. Based on how things went with our animal research, I feel like I'm going to need some extra hands and eyes during the process. We will be doing the research during writing from 10:50-11:45 daily. I don't have a nailed down start date yet, as we are still working on our animal reports. But, I'm shooting for the week of Feb. 4 to get started. If you are interested in spending some time with us helping kids find answers to specific biographical questions in supplied websites using their ipad, let me know and then when I have dates for sure I can get back with you. Please don't feel like you need to come everyday of this 8-10 day research process, even if you can help just once I would greatly appreciate it!
Swimming is Coming- March 18th- April 3rd
Each child will need a swimsuit and towel daily. One piece suits for girls please! More info to come as the date nears.
If you’d like to sit with your child at lunch we’d love to have you. Lunch begins at 11:47 a.m. If you wish to eat the school lunch, please call the office to order a tray.
Reading
We finished our unit on summarizing using the strategy- "somebody, wanted, but, so then" for fiction stories. For non-fiction, we learned to find the main idea and 3-4 details and summarize using that information from the text. We focused on fluency this week using our skills of applying inflection and intonation to our reading.
