ILMEA Recognition
The Board recognized some amazing musicians who received a special honor through the Illinois Music Education Association (ILMEA). These students all received an award at a competition hosted by the ILMEA.

Superintendent's Report
There has been a gradual increase in the performance of students in math and ERW at both middle schools. While District 109 8th graders averaged an increase of 49 scale-score points, students across the State of Illinois only increased by an average of 10 scale-score points and students across the nation only increased by an average of 5 scale-score points in the same time frame.
Other Happenings
Winter MAP testing is finishing for all grades.
The Standards-Based Grading/Reporting Survey is closed.
A committee of middle school teachers will meet to discuss results, next steps, and recommendations. Scott and Danielle will lead the committee. Changes are coming to Standards-Based Reporting.
The Middle School Schedule Committee met last Wednesday. The committee will present to Board at the January 13, 2020 meeting.
There will be a survey on middle school math after winter break. The math department will meet and report to Board at the February 10, 2020 meeting.
State Legislature will be back in session this January to talk about the Equity Boost proposal and pension cost-shift.

Budget Calendar
The calendar provides a timeline of important milestones towards the adoption of the budget well before the statutory deadline of September 30, 2020. Each year, the Board must direct the Business Office staff to begin preparing the budget.
Action Items
The Regular Board meeting minutes from November 18, 2019, were approved.
Personnel items including resignations/retirements, leave of absence, employment of certified staff, employment of educational support staff, and employment of at-will staff were approved.
The treasurer's report for November 2019 was approved.
Bills for payment were approved.
The recommendation to open closed session minutes from particular dates was approved.
The destruction of closed session recordings from May 21, 2018, was approved.
The interim employment agreement for H. LaFleur, Shepard Interim Associate Principal was approved.
The recommendation to accept a donation of a pergola for Kipling's courtyard from Happ Builders, Inc. was approved.

The designation to prepare the tentative 2020-2021 budget was approved.

Committee Reports
Policy Committee
The Policy Committee met prior to the Board meeting to discuss fees, school lunches, and the recording of Board meetings. The committee reached consensus to bring the option of recording Board meetings to the full Board for discussion.Executive Development Committee (EDC)
EDC will meet January 7, 2020.
NSSED
NSSED met and discussed the financial model and the TASH Conference.
Open Community Participation
Parents spoke during open community participation about concerns regarding the administration, Standards-Based Grading/Reporting, special education, math at the middle schools, and the middle school schedule.
