What we are working on.
6th Grade
We are starting to wrap up with our torn paper animal project, which took up several weeks, but they are starting to see an end. I am quite pleased with the results, and students really enjoyed seeing this come together. Students have been drawing their favorite animals, and now we will be creating some layer effects to make a stylized abstract of our animal. These turn out pretty neat, and the kids really like the outcomes, when they put in such hard work.
7th Grade:
Students are starting their figure construction unit studying superheros and we will be exploring how to draw the human form. We will begin by breaking down shapes, and really studying how to get what is in our mind out on paper. We will start with basic figure construction, and they will also be using an online superhero creator to build characters. Once they have drawn and created their characters, they will be designing their very own comic book cover, using the styles we learned in class.
8th Grade
Students are working on a six-panel study learning to draw parts of the face and body. We have been practicing for several days, and we will move into self-portraits once we have learned to adapt feature elements to our repertoire of skills.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me anytime. Thank you all for your continued support.
Artfully yours,
Mr Chapman

SECOND STEP @ FMS
The FMS Staff wants your child to be successful in school, and that means going beyond the basics. Excelling in academic classes is important, but students also need to know how to learn, make good decisions, handle strong emotions, and get along with others.
Today (Friday), we'll begin the Second Step Middle School Program, which focuses on skills and concepts that are designed to help students both in and out of school.
These include:Mindsets and Goals: Students learn about ways to grow their brains and get smarter, along with research-based strategies for achieving goals and handling difficult situations.Values and Friendships: Students learn to identify their personal values and use those values to make good decisions and build strong, positive relationships.Thoughts, Emotions, and Decisions: Students learn the positive role emotions play in their lives, how to handle unhelpful thoughts and strong emotions, and specific strategies for calming down. Serious Peer Conflicts: Students learn how to identify and avoid serious conflicts, resolve conflicts that can't be avoided, think about other people's perspectives, and help stop bullying and harassment at school.
If you have any questions about the Second Step Middle School Program, please do not hesitate to contact the School Counseling Office for more information. Thank you for supporting your child in learning the skills and concepts that lead to success in school and in life.
