The Dragons' Lair

August/September Edition

From the Principals

Hello Dragon Families:

What an interesting start to a new year! The students and teachers were so excited to meet all their new friends and start learning new things! I know the move to eLearning isn't ideal, but we are hopeful this will be short-lived and the students will be back with us very soon!

In case you haven’t had a chance to meet us yet, let us introduce ourselves:

Sandy Myers is the new Principal at Silver Creek Elementary School. This is my third year as principal at Silver Creek Elementary. Before that, I was the principal at Silver Creek Primary for 6 years. My family and I live in Sellersburg. We have three children. My girls both attend Silver Creek Schools and my son just started Speed school at the University of Louisville. My husband and I believe Sellersburg is the best location around to raise and educate our children!

Jon Sifers is our Assistant Principal! This is his third year to serve in this position. He also taught at Silver Creek Elementary School for 8 years. He graduated from Silver Creek High School and is a veteran of the United States Navy. His wife, Liz Sifers, teaches kindergarten at Silver Creek Primary School. They have two children. Reece is 8 years old and Whitley is 6 years old. Reece is in 3rd grade at Silver Creek Elementary and Whitley is in kindergarten at Silver Creek Primary.

Our door is always open. If you have something you would like to speak with us about, please call the office at 246-3312 to set up an appointment. We are happy to listen and would love to meet each of you! You can also email us at or

We, along with our staff, will continue the work to ensure ALL students are learning at high levels. This means that we want ALL students at grade level or above. Teachers have identified what is most important for students to learn. They will teach these lessons in their math and reading blocks. Based on their assessments, we will know who learned and who did not. Our daily FIRE time will allow us time to reteach students that may need more time to learn. It will also allow us to enrich the learning for the students that got it. In addition to this, we have a block of time to work with students that are below grade level. Due to our early dismissal on Wednesdays, teachers will have an opportunity to discuss this work and learn what is working best.

We believe that YOU are the most important teacher in your child’s life. We must work together as partners to ensure ALL students are successful this school year. All of the SCE staff will do everything possible to make sure your child is getting the best possible education!

It is our goal to be sure each child feels safe, enjoys learning, and builds positive character traits. We know we can speak for the whole staff when we say, we are excited to start this new year and can’t wait to get to know each of you and your children!

COVID Protocols

Silver Creek Elementary, Silver Creek Primary, and Silver Creek Middle School will operate on an eLearning platform this week (Monday, August 23- Friday, August 27). All students should be able to access their schoolwork at Work should be posted by 8:30 each morning. You should expect to see a variety of google meets, videos, discussions, and independent activities. If you have any questions, please contact your student's classroom teacher during school hours of 8:00-3:30.

All students will be marked present for eLearning during this shutdown as long as they are participating and completing their assignments. If students do not engage or complete their assignments, they will be counted absent. We want to do everything possible to continue the learning during this time.

We have monitored our COVID positivity and quarantine rate closely. Ultimately our goal is for the kids to be in school learning safely. We have tightened some of our building procedures to help limit the movement in the building as we saw our numbers increase. We would like to share our updated building reopening plan. Some changes that have been made are specials will now take place in the homeroom classrooms, except for PE. In addition, some classes will eat in their classroom to limit the number of students in the cafeteria at one time. We hope this will cut down on some of our contract tracing, and ultimately keep more students in school. Please take a look at our plan and let us know if you have any questions.

The SCSC school board met last Friday, August 20th in an emergency meeting. During this meeting, they approved an addendum to the SCSC Return to School Plan.

SCE's School Counselor

We would like to introduce and welcome our new school counselor, Jacklyn Goode. We are so excited that she is joining our team!! Here is a message for Mrs. Goode.

My name is Jaclyn Goode and I am your new school counselor. I am entering my 19th year as an educator and 9th as a school counselor. I have worked for the former West Clark School Corporation, Borden-Henryville, and Scott County School District 2. I attended the University of Southern Indiana for my bachelor’s degree in elementary education and the University of Louisville for my master’s degree in school counseling. I am also a proud parent of two Silver Creek students.

I am excited and honored to join the Silver Creek Elementary family! My job is to help your students become better learners by providing a comprehensive counseling program that meets their academic, social/emotional, and career development needs. I love working with and providing resources for students, teachers, families, and community members. Please let me know how I can help. The best way to contact me is through email.
