Prince Henry was a ruler from Portugal who funded numerous sea expeditions for many explorers such as Vasco de Gama, and Bartolemeu Dias. He was nicknamed "The Navigator" because of this.
Bartolemeu Dias
Bartolemeu Dias was a Portugese explorer who was the first European to discover the Southernmost tip of Africa, and is named The Cape of Good Hope.
Vasco de Gama
Vasco de Gama was another Portuguese explorer. He discovered a route to India that involved sailing around Africa. He arrived in Calicut, India, and brought back valuable goods and spices.
The caravel sail allowed ships to sail against the wind, making voyages easier and shorter.
