Sheldon Update
Week of August 17, 2020
Welcome from Mrs. Tanner
Dear Sheldon Families,
The countdown is on - there are only 23 days left until our students start remote learning on September 9! Although preparing for this school year has felt different, I am just as excited about the first day of school as I am every year! I encourage all families to consider new traditions to build excitement for the start of the year!
The Sheldon Reopening Team has been hard at work planning through all the logistics of opening our building safely and effectively. I will be sharing our comprehensive plan with families after staff come back on duty September 1. Our building team will continue to contact all families this week to confirm enrollment choices, answer questions, and provide important information. We are excited to talk to you!
We have added several new staff members to our team this year. Please extend a warm Sheldon Shark welcome to the following:
Gabrielle Tanner - Principal
Kim Cervantez - Teacher (3's)
Oliva Balbuena - Teacher (Mixed 3's and 4's)
Camille Miller - Teacher (4's)
Lori Stevenson - Teacher (4's)
Amber Johnson - Paraprofessional
Our first day of school will be on Wednesday, September 9, 2020. We will be in Phase 1, meaning all students will be in remote learning. We will have a phased reopening. See below for more information regarding each phase. Please note that preschool students will start 5 days a week, full days once we move into Phase 2 of the reopening plan. This date is flexible and depends on local health conditions.
Thank you for the privilege of serving you ~

We have a comprehensive Pk-12 curriculum, district-provided devices that are given to our Topeka Public Schools families, virtual field trips are offered, and our remote learning options allow for your child to remain connected with the certified teachers in Topeka Public Schools. iPad Distribution
In order to ensure we are ready for student learning, we need to distribute devices for students. Students who will be in preschool will need to pick up ipads.
If you are in quarantine or if you have been exposed to anyone in quarantine you may not come to the school site. If you are sick or have traveled internationally, on a cruise or to any states outside of Kansas, please do not come to the building. An appointment will be made to ensure you can get the materials you need at a later time.
***Change to procedure! Please read!
We will be utilzing a drive through line through our staff parking lot. This is an opportunity for us to practice the new procedure we will be implementing for arrival and dismissal this year. All students who do not ride the bus will utilize the car line or the walk-up procedures. More information will be shared in an upcoming parent newsletter. For this event, please plan to turn right into the staff parking lot on the south end of the building, off of Sena Street. Follow the cones through the line and please stay in your car until staff gives you the device. You will exit the parking lot by taking a right onto Sena Street.
Please follow this schedule for iPad Distribution on Monday, August 31st:

There will be two sessions offered where the same information will be shared. You are welcome to join your child's classroom Zoom at 4:30 or 5:00. Sessions will be about 30 minutes long. After your session, you are invited to a live session with the Principal, Mrs. Tanner, at 5:05 or 5:35.
