STAAR Testing @ Collins

Del Valle ISD is proud that our students demonstrate achievement in a variety of ways. We recognize that the upcoming state STAAR assessment is only one measure of achievement, however; the state of Texas does require all students in grades 3-8, as well as high school students to participate in this assessment. The state requires students who do not take the test participate in 30 hours of accelerated learning if they miss the assessment and/or the subsequent make-up days.

We at Collins continue to focus on ensuring your child is well prepared for this assessment. As a reminder, your child will participate in the STAAR tests during the window of May 10-13.

We thank you for your continued support and involvement in your child’s education. Your partnership with us and your child’s teacher plays an important part in supporting your student’s education. As part of this partnership, you can help your child put their best foot forward in many ways. Here are a few suggestions that can help your child succeed, not only on testing day, but every day at school:

★ Assist your child in reviewing and practicing skills

★ Make sure your child gets a good night’s rest

★ Have your child eat a healthy breakfast at home or in the cafeteria at school

★ Make sure your child arrives at school on time

★ Support and encourage your child to do their best

Thank you,

Ashley Fredo

Field Day

Attention Parents and Guardians:

The best day of the year has arrived, Field Day! Below are the dates and times your child will participate in Field Day. Please have your child bring their water bottle and wear comfortable clothes, tennis shoes, and a hat. Students will also need an extra t-shirt to change into after Field Day. Parents/guardians are able to attend Field Day with your child. Parents/guardians will need to check-in at the front office and sign out when field day ends. We are accepting donations of individually packaged Goldfish and Cheez It crackers to provide all students with a snack. Please leave donations in the front office.

Parent Volunteers

We are excited to begin having our wonderful parent volunteers on campus during the day again!

If you are interested in volunteering on campus, please contact our parent liaison, Araceli.Mcbeth@dvisd.net

We are currently organizing parent volunteers to help with laminating, copying, bulletin boards, textbook inventory, preparing learning materials and supporting teacher preparation.

We also are seeking a few long-term volunteers who can help in our library 1x week. This role will require a training on our library systems.

Please email Araceli to coordinate times, dates and training.

Dismissal

Thank you to all our parents for adjusting to our new dismissal line up for car riders. We appreciate you lining up along Apogee Road as Finnial Road and Moonbeam Road (behind the school) remain closed.

Please make sure you have your student's car tag displayed in your dashboard at pickup. If you need an additional car tag, please visit our front office and present your ID to be issued a new one.

  • If you are going to change how your child goes home, please communicate this with the front office by 2:00PM
  • If you are going to pick your child up from school before dismissal, please pick them up no later than 2:30PM. To ensure the safety of our students and that everyone gets home, we will not pull students from classrooms after 2:30PM.
  • Parents are prohibited from pulling a student off the bus at dismissal.
  • Students will be released during the school day only to persons listed in Skyward.
