Special Connections
Hawk Talk September 2019
Welcome!!
We would like to welcome you to the first edition of Special Connections: Hawk Talk! This is a newsletter put out by Corning-Painted Post's Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) department. Last year we asked you to fill out a survey about the community services you receive and the Committee on Special Education (CSE) process. We also asked for your top three questions about special education. We have decided to create Special Connections: Hawk Talk as the platform to answer your questions. You will receive an email once a month with PPS specific information. Since we live in a world of texts, tweets and posts we will tend to keep the newsletter on the short side because we want you to read it.
What is PPS?!
PPS stands for Pupil Personnel Services. Some may refer to us as the special education department, but we provide services to more than students with special needs. Teachers, teaching assistants, teacher aides, speech teachers, speech/language pathologists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, certified occupational therapy assistant, teacher of the blind and visually impaired/orientation and mobility, social workers, school counselors, nurses, certified nursing assistants, and school psychologists all fall under the PPS umbrella.
Our goal is to work collaboratively with families and community members to provide our students with a quality education that addresses academic, physical, emotional needs, and social skills to enable them to become self-advocates and contributing members of society.
