Statement of student support
Schools are a reflection of our communities. And our communities are struggling. As a district, we are angered by the police shooting in Brooklyn Center that killed Daunte Wright. We extend our deepest condolences to his loved ones and to all who have been impacted by the unnecessary and tragic loss of yet another Black man.
Events like these can understandably trigger trauma in children who are trying to make sense of the world around them. These events include the recent shootings in Boulder and Atlanta -- as well as the upcoming verdict in the trial of Derek Chauvin in Minneapolis.
In Mounds View Public Schools, we are . . .
Listening to students to understand what they are feeling, seeing or experiencing.
Providing safe spaces for students to reflect and process these current events.
Offering extra support services and resources for students if needed.
Please know that we are committed to addressing the inequities that exist in our schools. We realize this work requires an ongoing commitment to continuous improvement and equity in education for all of our students. We look forward to partnering with parents, families and the community to continue this important and necessary work.

COVID-19 testing for students and families
We strongly encourage all in-person students and their families to get tested for COVID-19 every two weeks through the end of the school year. Students involved in any extracurricular activities or sports should consider getting tested every week.
There are many options to get tested. You can visit a community testing site, get tested through your healthcare provider or order an at-home test kit. All options are quick, easy, and free to you. Find out more about each option here.
Make regular testing part of your routine
Getting tested regularly is the best way to ensure we don’t spread COVID-19. Here are some tips to incorporate regular testing into your regular routine.
Mark your calendar with regular testing reminders and bookmark the testing site for easy access.
Make testing appointments part of your weekend errands.
Make testing appointments a family day and spend time together.

Irondale High School and Mounds View High School are pleased to announce plans for in-person graduation ceremonies to celebrate the Class of 2021. Commencement ceremonies will be held on Tuesday, June 8, at the University of Minnesota’s Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis. Mounds View’s ceremony will begin at 5 p.m., and Irondale’s ceremony will begin at 7:30 p.m. In compliance with Mariucci’s capacity limits, each graduate’s family will receive two tickets for guests. The 60-minute ceremony will be live-streamed online for those who cannot attend.

Welcoming back the Class of 2020
As promised last spring, plans are now underway to hold safe and socially distanced open house celebrations for the Class of 2020 from Irondale and Mounds View sometime in late spring or early summer. Last year’s seniors will be invited to return to their campuses and tour the newly completed construction projects, including the new student commons, the fitness centers and the transformed classroom spaces. Dates for these events will be announced in the coming weeks.
