2016 Fall College Coffee Hours
The NSHS School Counselors will be hosting four sessions of “College Coffee Hour” for parents this fall. Each session will take place in the High School Library from 7:30-8:15 AM. These sessions are intended to give parents going through the college search process an opportunity to meet with school counselors and ask questions. We also welcome parents who have been through the process before to come and share their experiences with parents who have not been through the process. Please bring a laptop or tablet to make the experiences more inter-active. Topics will be discussed at each session and afterwards, there will be time for questions. If you would like to attend, please RSVP via this link: https://goo.gl/forms/3MIqkvP67Tl026213

Fall Career Fair by students for students!
What is Inventing Heron?
People talking about their jobs
Inventing Heron is a fresh and intimate looks at the workplace, with over 400 people in careers ranging from mushroom farmers to astrophysicists, talking about what they call work. It’s free and gives you full access to the site, including career resources and the message board.
Herons come to the site to seek firsthand information on different careers and to see how other people live their lives. Becoming a heron entails submitting a heron profile. The profile is part interview part online resume and once completed employers can search for you by keyword if you indicate you’re actively searching for a job (coming soon). You also get access to the message board, job board, and career resources, including our in house career advisor Corrie Haley.
Mentors make a meaningful difference in the lives of high school students and beyond by sharing their stories. Being a mentor entails filling-out and submitting the mentor profile. If you are open to being contacted by herons you also have that option but if not, we understand! The profile is a personal history, conveying how you got here and what you would do differently if you could do it all over again. We love detail but you can also choose to remain anonymous and tailor your “Display Name” and profile accordingly. Once the profile is completed you get access to the message board, career resources, and our hearts.
