The first transcontinental railroad was completed on May 10th, 1869. This linked the Eastern railways with the Pacific Ocean, and made it much easier and faster to travel across the United States. I'm proud of this because it helped spark the demand for faster and easier transportation.

The Sherman Anti-Trust act prohibited certain business activities that federal government regulations deem to be anti-competative. This act made it illegal for companies to seek monopoly on a product or service. I am proud that America did this because it made it a crime to monopolize any part of trade or commerce.

The industrial revolution was the transition to new manufacturing processes in the period from late 1800's to early 1900's. In the midst of people immigrating from across the world to America, the U.S. citizens often discriminated against the immigrants. It was difficult for the American citizens to accept the Chinese, Irish, and Jewish people. I am not proud of this because I believe all people are created equal.

While America was rapidly becoming more urban, Working conditions often went unnoticed. Thus, Labor unions were created to ensure that the workers were in a safe workplace. I am proud of this because the conditions in which they were working in were very unsafe, and needed to be better.

In 1877, Thomas Edison invented the phonograph, just one of the many inventions during the industrial revolution. The phonograph was a way to record sound by using tin foil coated cylinders. Social/cultural event for urbanization
Because of the uprising number of factories in America, African people were forced to immigrate north because of the need/demand for workers. I am not proud of this because I believe that everyone should be free and no one should be forced to work, especially for little or no pay.
Political event during progressivism
Jane Adams moved immigrants into Hull Houses in an attempt to incorporate the immigrants into the city. Although most people didn't agree with immigrants in their city, Jane Adams wanted to help them by giving them a place to live. I am proud of this because if she wouldn't have helped them, then it's possible no one would have.

Consumer Fraud became very popular, which was basically a way for big companies to rip off consumers by false advertising. I am not proud of this because false advertising is illegal today, and was a way for big companies to take advantage of normal citizens.

The Jim Crow laws made segregation legal. Segregation was a major problem during this time period, and continued all the way up to 1965 until stopped by Martin Luther King Jr. I am not proud of this because all humans are created equal and no one should be treated differently based on the color of their skin.

At the end of the Spanish-American war, the U.S. collected Puerto Rico as a colony, set up a protectorate over Cuba, and annexed the Hawaiin islands. I am proud of this because we gained a lot of territory used for ship ports and didn't lose to the Spanish.

The Hay-Bunau-Varilla treaty gave the U.S. permission to establish a Panama canal zone that was 10 miles wide. This saved the Americans a tremendous amount of time, because instead of having to travel all the way around South America, The would be able to cut through central America. I am proud of this because it saved us a great amount of time and enabled faster trade and travel from the east to west coast.

President Woodrow Wilson declares his 14 points as the path to permanent world peace. After the expenses and casualty count of WW1, Woodrow Wilson decided that the better route would be to declare world peace. I am proud of this because I think that he had the right idea, but it obviously didn't work because WWII followed shortly after.
