Reading...

In reading workshop we continue to focus on reading informational text. This week our young readers focused on learning new vocabulary and teaching others what they've learned in their books.

Writing...

Our young authors continue to work on their informational writing pieces. Most of them are finished and are working on typing their books in google docs!

Math…

Our young mathematicians wrapped up division! Next week we will focus on reviewing multiplication and division. The test will be on Thursday, March 24. Please go over the study guide with your child that came home on Friday!

Please continue to practice math facts with your child at home. Your mathematician should be able to tell you what they are working on (addition, subtraction or multiplication).

Science

Our geologist continue to study rocks and minerals. We focused more on minerals this week! Please ask your geologist what are the properties of a mineral. They might even sing it to you!

Classroom Norms

Our class is struggling with following our class norms! I'm sending them again so you can discuss the norms at home with your child. We've been having a tricky time with keeping our hands to ourselves and talking when the speaker is talking!

Universal norms:

  • I stay focused during learning activities.
  • I actively listen to my peers and my teacher.
  • I am respectful toward myself, my classmates, my teacher and classroom tools.
  • I am actively engaged in making sense of my learning.

Math Norms:

  • I stay focused during math workshop.
  • I actively listen to my peers and teacher.
  • I am respectful toward myself, my classmates, my teacher and math tools.
  • I am actively engaged in making sense of math.

If you find that your child is clipping down please ask them what norm they were choosing not to follow.

Field Trip

We had so much fun on our field trip to Cranbrook! I hope your child shared all the new things they learned. A big thank you to all my volunteers!

Please & Thank you...

We our out of glue sticks! If you could please send in some glue sticks it would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you Mrs. VanGoor for coming in and reading to our class for a second time!! The kids loved the book Woof!

Miscellaneous...

Way to go Kourtney, Iliana and Lauren! You three did a fabulous job in the variety show!

Michigan weather is so tricky! I encourage you to continue to send boots to school each day with your child. Even if there is little or no snow on the ground the boots protect from the wet, muddy ground that can make for a miserable afternoon if you end up with wet socks.
