What can you do?

Create and mail in a pinwheel! All materials will be provided in the Library Learning Commons.

This will be a special event held during all recess waves.

Wednesday, Oct. 14th, 10:30am

Weston Middle School, Library Learning Commons

This event will start on October 14th and run through November 13th.

How does this help?

For each pinwheel that is made, a $2.00 donation will be made to the International Rescue Committee. The money raised will be used to:

  • equip teachers will skills to create safe places for Syrian children to recover, grow, and learn
  • create learning environments to provide Syrian children with a sense of normalcy, structure, and stability to promote their well being

Pinwheels will also be distributed to Healing Classrooms in Lebanon, Northern Iraq, Jordan, and Turkey.

On March 20, 2011, a civil war erupted causing nearly 11 million Syrians to flee their homes. More than 4 million have sought refuge in neighboring countries of Lebanon, Northern Iraq, Jordan, and Turkey.

The majority of displaced Syrians are children.

Healing classrooms in these countries would like to provide a sense of normalcy and stability for these Syrian children. The International Rescue Committee has established a program to train teachers to help these children.
