Note from the Principal
Good Evening Parents,
I can't believe 2021 is coming to a close. The first 5 months as Buena Vista's principal have flown by in a blink. I appreciate the warm welcome I received at the start of this school year and truly enjoy collaborating with staff and parents to ensure that Buena Vista is a place were students want to learn and grow. I am looking forward to our brief Winter Break and then jumping right back into the work and fun on January 3rd.
This week I was able spend time with Ms. Yorkey's 5th grade class during math. They were learning about he standard algorithm for double digit multiplication. It was awesome to watch them solve 47 x 28 three different ways. They started with the area model, then transferred that knowledge to the partial products model finishing with the standard algorithm. I was able to hear them talk about their own learning and recognize the number placement and place value of numbers in the standard algorithm. It was great to see all of the lightbulbs click on as they compared the various ways to solve the problem.

Parent Volunteers On Campus
We are thrilled to ease back in to having parent volunteers on campus! Seeing your child in his/her 'learning zone' is an amazing experience, and we'd love your help in supporting all students. Please see your child's classroom teacher's communications for further information. All volunteers must complete the volunteer training module (it's short!). The module allows you to upload proof of COVID vaccination; if you don't have proof of vaccination, you are required to show proof of negative PCR test within 72 hours of each volunteer opportunity.
Reminder that volunteers pass through the office, sign in, and collect a volunteer lanyard.
Do you have a TK/K starting in the 2022-23 School Year?
See below for registration information! See the District Website and/or ask Shelley in the office if you have any questions.
BV Looking for Noon Duty Supervision
We are looking for extra supervision support during lunch and recess. Generally we need this supervision from 11:25-1:10. This includes supervising students while eating their lunch and watching them on our playground and making sure they are following the rules. We are looking for someone 5 days a week, but there may be some flexibility if you can commit on a regular schedule for certain days of the week. Please reach out directly to me agramlick@walnutcreeksd.org. You can also check the job posting here.
Lost and Found
All lost and found remaining at school on Friday, December 17th will be donated. Please swing by and look for your child's lost clothing and other items.
Please continue to be safe and take care.
Respectfully,
Angela Gramlick
Principal

A Reminder from our Walnut Creek School District Nurses:
Safest Way to Celebrate the Holidays
Get Vaccinated or Get Your Booster Shot:
Our best prevention method against COVID-19 is vaccination
Vaccines are safe, free, and effective for those 5 years old and up
Booster vaccines are available for ages 18 years and up
Those too young to be vaccinated can be protected if those around them are vaccinated
Wear a Mask
In Contra Costa County a mask is required in most indoor public places regardless of vaccination status
Make sure your mask is well-fitted, covering the nose and mouth
Get Tested
Gatherings and travel increase risk of COVID-19 exposure and transmission
It is recommended to get tested for COVID-19 3-7 days after a gathering or traveling
Happy Holidays!
End of Year Giving
Wish trees were created for students to share their hopes and dreams during last month's TK-8 Read-a-thon. When one student wrote that they wished “art class was longer,” we thought about how fortunate our students are to live in a community that supports public schools.
Programs that are not funded by the state—like weekly art, music, science lab; our libraries; electives in middle and high school—come at a cost. Your donations to WCEF make programs like these possible. Help us support all students, and ensure they don't have to hope for a great education.
