Make It Happen Day/PSAT Feedback
Many of you have ideas about how to tweak things for next year. Please add to the running list at this link to help make next year's events even better!
PLEASE NOMINATE STUDENTS!
Any BHS student may be nominated as a “Featured Student” and have an article composed to highlight their achievements both in and outside of school. BHS student authors will interview "featured students" and compose articles to highlight our best and/or brightest.
Nominated students should be those that are exemplary representatives of BHS. Students do not need to be great athletes or at the top academically, but should be individuals recognized as hard working in class or being helpful or doing something particularly interesting. These are often students that would not be recognized other than as a student of the week… However, the choice of potential students remains with the teachers.
Please click here to nominate a student for Student of the Week!
Learning Walks (a.k.a. Walk-throughs)
Walking into someone else's classroom for the first time usually feels like a horribly intrusive act. BUT, once I got past the awkward intimacy of it, it is truly one of the most professionally enhancing activities that I've ever done and still continue to do.
I would love for you to come along with me! Department leaders have already started to join in and the counselors will soon, but I'd like to invite all of you to participate in this enlightening NON-EVALUATIVE professional development opportunity.
Why?
- see how others "do teaching"
- see the GREAT things that are happening at BHS!
- widen your perspective
- see how others manage the challenging behavior of your favorite students :)
- see your strugglers shine in another content
- get energized
- get reminded about strategies you have learned before
- see connections in other classes to your own
- get ideas about new techniques
I encourage you to read this article to learn more about the value of Learning Walks.
So, if you're interested, we could do a walk however you like during your planning period - in 10 minutes or 45 minutes, just see one content or go to see your students in other classes, reflect afterward or just go on your merry way. The more we walk, the more comfortable we'll all get being in others' classrooms.
(*if our faculty feels it would be worthwhile, Learning Walks could possibly become part of our CFIP cycle.)
· If you have 10th graders who are interested in participating within the STEMM Middle College program, please have them meet with the 10th grade School Counselor, Mrs. McDonald.
· On December 9th, the ASVAB will be administered to students who are interested in exploring a career within the military. It will begin at 8:45am in the cafeteria.
· There will be a Financial Aid Night on October 22nd at 6:30pm within the BHS Media center. This night will focus on college planning and financial aid information.
· The 10th grade class will be visiting Tech High on October 23rd. If you should have any further questions please see the 10th grade School Counselor, Mrs. McDonald.
· Teachers, thank you for your flexibility with all of the new student enrollments we have received this year. We are trying our best to make sure that we are not overloading your classrooms, but at times it is just not possible. We appreciate your patience and support!
The Leo Club Food Drive has officially begun!
We will collect food through October 30 in the boxes in your classrooms.
* IF YOU HAVE NOT RECEIVED A FOOD COLLECTION BOX, PLEASE LET JACKIE KNOW ASAP.*
We will WEIGH your food collection by Warrior Block. We will have prizes for the top 3 Warrior Blocks, to be determined next week.
If you have already delivered food to Ms. Rebok's room, please arrange to have it returned to your room so we can count your totals correctly.
Please share with your Warrior Block students and encourage them to donate. Last year we donated over 1,800 lbs. of food. Our goal this year is 2,500 pounds of food.
