Lucky Pups Weekly News

March 13-17

Read for the love of reading! No reading log required:-) I know we are all enjoying being out in the sunshine in the afternoons, so I've been encouraging my friends to get in bed with a good book at night. It's a great way to foster a lifelong love of reading! Get a cute lamp to go by the bed, or use a book lamp to read until you fall asleep:-) Please click on the AR bookfinder link below to search for just right books for your child. A homework folder will no longer be sent home. I want your child focusing on reading!

Leprechaun Traps

Our class will be making leprechaun traps this week. Please send in supplies for your child to make their trap. You do not need to buy anything. We are using recycled items.

This week we will be talking with the students about the importance of retelling a story. this will help them retain what they are reading. During our partner time in workshop, the students will practice this with their partner. We will also model the strategy of revisiting a text to notice more details. Often our readers plow through a story. It is important for them to slow down and seek meaning or clarification. And finally, we will be taking a close look at the main character.

Our phonics skill for the week will be reviewing the long o spellings.

In writer's workshop, we will continue writing opinions.

This week we will begin our new math module on shapes.

We will be learning to classify shapes by their attributes, recognize and name 2 & 3 dimensional shapes and creating a figure using other shapes.
