Dear Families

A very wet weekend ahead everyone! May you manage to find some dry and relaxing moments together as a family - I see a good movie and some home made soup on my horizon!

It's been a big week here at school but a good one. The School Review and the Principal Review have now been completed and we received wonderful feedback from all stakeholders. Many thanks to those parents, staff and students who gave up their time for various interviews across the three days - your generous input is very much appreciated.

Happy St Emilie's Feast Day!

On Wednesday we gathered as one community for our first whole school Mass for the year. It really was a special celebration simply being together to pray for one another, to pray for ourselves and to pray for all those who need our prayers. Today children enjoyed a muffin and milo and participated in various activities celebrating the life of St Emilie. Father Jean-Noel Marie gave a really wonderful homily highlighting some of the special qualities of our patron saint.

Disco Photos

Many thanks to Bianca Woolhouse (one of our parents who is also a professional photographer) who took photos at our school disco last Friday.

Teachers will download photos of children who have photo permission and share these via Seesaw before the end of term - there is of course not a photo of every child, however, there are some lovely shots.

Online Content

Every year here at school, we become aware of yet another fictional character designed to scare kids. We can be alerted when a child has watched content on a game, youtube or app and then comes to school and shares what they saw and heard with their friends. At other times a parent has reported a concern.

This year a series of TikTok videos featuring 'Huggy Wuggy', a 10-foot tall stuffed blue bear who exposes a grinning mouth, full of shark-like teeth, while singing menacing songs, have gone viral. Unsuspecting children often stumble across the content when scrolling through the video app. The game is designed to be a scary experience. According to the developers, this content was designed for children 13 years and older.

Parents are reminded to please:

- monitor all your child's online viewing very carefully.

- ensure that your child's device is being used where a parent can oversee their use.

- not share your passwords

- ensure that the settings on your children’s social media and video accounts are appropriately

- teach your child about what to do if they come across inappropriate content.

Here at St Emilie's we expect all families to have every child's best interests at heart. The time and effort you give to your child's responsible use of technology now, will pay dividends as they grow older. Vigilance is important, as are good conversations with your child about what is appropriate, about trust and responsibility, respect and empathy.

Thank you for your support in helping us to protect our kids from unnecessary worry and please try to ensure your children's time and what they are consuming on devices, is limited, monitored and appropriate.

Milo Muffin Morning Tea

Many thanks to our P&F helpers who ran our first Milo and Muffin Morning Tea for the year. The children absolutely LOVED it and the weather cooperated, even offering us sunshine and a rainbow!

Two Way Meetings come to an End

Many thanks to all the families who attended a Two Way Meeting, either face to face or by phone. We hope you found this opportunity useful and informative. As Principal, I am very grateful for the generosity of staff in providing this opportunity and for giving so much of their own time to enable them.
