Updates from our Principal
Good Afternoon Firebird Nation!
What a week we have had!
Thank you to Nurse Nelda for working diligently to get all of our students’ updated immunization information. Thank you also to our counselors and administration staff for helping to reaching out to parents as well. Use the link below to see Falcon Middle School’s updated immunization report.
Last night we had an opportunity to celebrate our students who reached academic excellence first semester. Students who earned 3.5 and above for both first and second quarter were celebrated. Over 300 students were honored last night. An enormous number of parents, families, and friends were present and it was amazing to see the support. All of our students work incredibly hard and it was exciting to celebrate each one. A huge thank you to all of our teachers at Falcon Middle School for working each day to provide educational opportunities for our students. You are definitely appreciated for your dedication. We look forward to continuing these types of celebrations in the future.
The countdown is on for the upcoming NCDC Conference (National Conference on Digital Convergence) the first of February. Teachers are working hard in the classroom to prepare for visitors as well as preparing a variety of offerings for conference participants. Students are preparing to be navigators and participants. The band is preparing music as part of the luncheon for one of the days. Our FMS building manager and our custodial staff are working to get our building physically in shape as well. Finally, our amazing instructional coach, Mrs. Balk, has been working with our entire staff as well as the other instructional coaches across the zone. All of this work is to showcase the learning accomplished by our students every day. None of this would be possible without our student body. We will keep you posted as we continue to move forward.
This coming week, girls’ basketball will play their final regular season games. Keep rocking it ladies and we will see you in the playoffs!! Boys’ Basketball begins soon. Please see the athletic page of FMS website for dates and all information.
Have a great weekend and stay warm!
Mrs. Elena Forehand

Intent to Return Survey
FMS is already starting to plan for the 2023-24 school year!
During this time, our school needs to gather the intent to return information from our current students. Getting this information from our D49 families helps our schools better prepare for the upcoming school year and plan class sizes and staffing needs.
The Intent to Return Survey for current students is now available electronically through the PowerSchool Parent Portal account by either accessing your Parent Portal account on a desktop computer or the Parent Portal Mobile App (not the D49 App).
Only one response per student is needed.

Tutoring Available at FMS
We wanted to reach out to all of of our Firebird Families as we continue our way through this 2022-2023 School Year at Falcon Middle School. We are spending more time working with all grade-level Firebirds on the mastery of their core contents. Due to this, FMS will continue to offer after-school tutoring and subject help.
FMS will be offering a 1-hr 15-min tutoring window on Mondays through Thursdays from 3:15-4:30 pm. These times will be used to:
· Master current standards and concepts
· Master former standards and concepts
· Work on current learning plans/Guided Support
If you are interested in attending a tutoring window, please fill out the following Google Form. Once you have signed up, we will look forward to seeing you at the tutoring session!
Any attending students ARE REQUIRED to have a plan for being picked up at 4:30 pm.
Please feel free to reach out to either of us or your child's teachers if you have any concerns or questions,

ATTN 8th Grade - FHS Choir Auditions!
Greetings from the Falcon High School Choir department!
My name is Mrs. Meyer, and I am the choir director at Falcon High School.
Although there are three choir options at FHS that are available to students without an audition, current 8th-grade students who are looking to be more involved are welcome (and encouraged!) to audition for Chamber Choir or our show choirs. Students auditioning for Chamber Choir will need to complete a short vocal audition. Students auditioning for the show choirs will need to complete the same vocal audition plus a dance audition.
Students Currently in Choir
Students NOT in Choir
Students not currently in choir may complete their vocal audition on the evening of January 25th, 2023. Vocal auditions will begin at approx. 6:15 PM at FHS. Students should bring the last two pages (five and six) of their 2023-2024 Auditioned Choir Handbook to their audition. If the student does not have a printer available at home, they can fill out the forms with a parent/guardian upon arrival. No prior preparation is needed for the audition as long as the student knows the song "Happy Birthday." More detailed information about the FHS choir program and auditions can be found at this website.
Dance Auditions
Scheduling/Deadline
If the time frames listed above do not work for you, please email me at bmeyer@d49.org to schedule an alternate audition time. Please note that all auditions must be completed by Thursday, January 26th--this includes current 8th-grade students! Please also note that the audition choreography for the show choirs will only be taught (step-by-step) on the evening of January 25th. If you are completing your dance audition at a different time, you will have to learn the dance on your own.
Please feel free to email me at bmeyer@d49.org if you have any questions, and I look forward to seeing some of your students in choir class next year!

Firebird Nation Campus Expansion
Construction continues to move along at a rapid pace! Flooring is being completed and installed on the first level and the dry wall on the second level is almost finished. Lighting has been installed throughout the building. The exterior finishes are in the home stretch. Classroom furniture has been ordered along with all of the additional lunch tables. Beginning in February, teams from FMS and BRES will begin the work to determine the specifics on how this new addition to our campus will operate and be utilized. Overall, the project has remained on time and on budget!
