Two Week Challenge
From Ascension Sunday to Pentecost Sunday...
Jesus Ascended so the Holy Spirit could Descend...
"Jesus ascended to the right hand of the Father so that the Holy Spirit could descend."
Why is that important?
Glad you asked!
The Holy Spirit enables Jesus to be both fully present on the throne of heaven AND fully present in the heart of every Christian...
So I would like to invite you all to join me in praying for 3 things during the 2 weeks between Ascension Sunday (May 26th) and Pentecost Sunday (June 9th).
1. Pray that Jesus would increase your desire for more of Himself and more of the fullness of the Holy Spirit.
- Jesus said, "Let anyone who is thirsty come to me." (John 7:37)
- A.W. Tozer has written, "We have as much of God as we actually want."
We can get a sip or flood from the River of Life. Pray for a flood!
2. Pray that Jesus would increase your will to surrender and give up control.
- Is there any anger, bitterness, unforgiveness or general attitudes that sit on the throne of
your heart that need to be "dethroned" in order for Christ to be enthroned?
Ask Jesus to send His Holy Spirit to increase your ability to surrender.
3. Ask Jesus to increase your faith in His promises.
- "We don't have to overcome God's stinginess or reluctance to fill us with the Spirit - we
just need to take hold of God's willingness." - Rev. Dr. Stephen Seamands
Pray confidently, trusting that the Father longs to give you more of the person, presence and power of the Holy Spirit for your daily living.
"You will receive power went he Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." When He had said this, as they were watching, He was lifted up, and a cloud took Him out of their sight. - Acts 1:8-9
After Jesus' ascension, the disciples "tarried and waited" for 10 days...until the promise became their reality. Let us all do likewise!
