Evansdale Weekly Newsletter - September 15th Edition
Due to the shortened week, progress reports will go home on Friday, September 22nd.
A Note From Mr. Clayton...
If you are interested in learning more about the gifted program here at Evansdale, please attend one of our information sessions next Thursday, September 21st. We will have a morning session at 8:30 am and an evening session at 6 pm. Both sessions will take place on September 21st in the library. These sessions are geared towards providing information about how students become eligible for gifted services through
Dekalb County and how they receive gifted services here at Evansdale.
Thanks,
Robert Clayton

You Say Eagle .... I say Trek!
It is time for Evansdale's largest fundraiser - Eagle Trek! If last Friday's pep rally is any indication of how successful Eagle Trek will be this year, it will be the largest ever! Eagle Trek is a Walk-a-thon that raises money for both PTA and Evansdale Foundation. Because the event is volunteer driven, the costs are low, allowing 90% of the money raised by participants(students) to remain at the school. The funds raised are used to provide teacher training, classroom resources, STEM enrichment programs & materials, events and programs, additional staffing not provided by DCSD, and more. Needless to say, this event is very important for the Evansdale community. Our goal is to raise at least $55,000 this year. There will be prize days each Friday leading up to and including walk day.
The Eagle Trek "Get Started" packets, containing t-shirts and instructions on how to set up their own fundraising web pages and email donation requests to family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers, went home in couriers last Friday. All Eagle Trek donations are tax-deductible. Donations should be turned in by the Walk-a-Thon Day.
October 12th is Walk-a-Thon Day. All students will walk around the lower field track for 30 minutes during their PE period that day. A mark will be placed on the back of each student's Eagle Trek shirt for every lap walked. Fun fact - 6 laps = 1 mile.

Remember - Every Eagle Counts ... and ... Eagle Trek is Counting on Every Eagle!

Evansdale Selected as Participant in 2017 Adopt a Mile Program at PNC Atlanta 10 Miler
Atlanta Track Club announced the 10 nonprofit organizations selected for its Adopt a Mile program held in conjunction with the PNC Atlanta 10 Miler & 5K. These likeminded organizations will “adopt” a mile along the 10-mile course, creating cheer zones and providing course entertainment.
The 2017 Adopt a Mile program participants are:
- Atlanta Rollergirls, Back on My Feet Atlanta, BlazeSports America, Evansdale Elementary School PTA, Girls on the Run Atlanta, International Community School, Peachtree Ridge Cross Country Booster Club, Peak Performance South,Piedmont Park Conservancy, and Throw 1 Deep
The organizations were selected based on their work to improve health and fitness in the community, and five of the cheer zones held for organizations that promote wellness through youth running programs. Each group will provide a minimum of 30 people on race day for course support, cheer zones and entertainment.
Organizations that meet the minimum requirements on race day will receive a base donation of $1,000, and up to $5,000 can be earned by organizations that offer extra course support through the Adopt a Mile bonus points system. Points will be given based on categories including the number of volunteers, creativity of the cheer zone, level of enthusiasm and cleanup efforts. Additionally, the organization voted “Best of the Best” by event participants will earn a $500 prize.
The PNC Atlanta 10 Miler, now in its fifth year, features an exciting course that starts and finishes at Atlantic Station and leads runners through Midtown and Buckhead. The event also offers a 5K course.
