Spiritual Reflection
Miss Sheila O'Callaghan
We are still in the winter season. However, we are looking forward to spring and celebrating a few special days before Lent begins.
On Sunday, February 12, we remember Abraham Lincoln’s birthday.
February 17 is the day set aside to honor The Seven Holy Founders of the Servite Order.
Sts. Cyril and Methodius are remembered on February 14. These brothers were monks, missionaries and scholars. They carried the good news of Jesus to the Slavic people.
Also on February 14, we celebrate St. Valentine’s Day. St. Valentine was a bishop who bravely died for his faith. The name Valentine means “valiant and brave.” February 14 is a date connected with love. Legend has it that birds pick their mates on February 14. St. Valentine sent notes of love and encouragement to his people. That is why notes of love and friendship, called valentines, are sent on St. Valentine’s Day.
See how many acts of love you can share with others whose love makes your life better. There is a beautiful reading from the apostle Paul. 1 Corinthians 13: 4-6, 13. It tells us what love truly is. Remember, God is love.
Below is an explanation of how God loves us unconditionally. The author is unknown, but this explanation was written and placed in the bulletin of St. Mary and St. Pat’s parish when Father Trainor was the pastor.
Love
Love is not a prize to be bestowed on the winner of a contest. Love is not a return for benefits received. If you require that people be “worthy” of your love, you are not likely to love anyone. Look at yourself. Where would you be today in God’s eyes? What have you done to merit God’s love? What benefits have you reaped for God for which you should be loved?
But God does not love in that way. God simply loves — totally, and without qualification. God is always the shepherd solicitous for the well-being of his flock. Helpless and harassed as we are, God sees our plight and has compassion for us. God’s love for us so far exceeds our ability to respond that we can only wonder at the depth and the breadth of it, and celebrate its being given to us, although we have done — can do — so little to merit it.
Please pray for the sick, especially Father Mink, Father Jasper’s mom, Patrick Flanagan, and all the sick of our parish. Our Armed Forces and First Responders need our prayers. Please pray for them.
Board of Catholic Schools Annual Survey
The Board of Catholic Schools is asking for parent and guardian participation in their annual survey. The deadline for completion is this Friday, February 17.

2023-24 School Calendar Outline
The Official School Calendar for 2023-2024 is outlined below. While much additional work must be done to build the calendar out further, we know families will appreciate receiving this information early.
The Catholic Schools Office will release a month-to-month calendar of important events for schools by the end of March, after which St. Ann School will work with St. Ann Parish, Home & School Association, and other school committees to finalize major school events for publication in the spring.
