Note from the Principal
Visitor Policy Changes for STAAR Testing
As you know, Boone is a family school. We want our parents in and around the campus helping and volunteering as you have always done. This is one of the many things that makes Boone such a special place. With that said, I do need to ask your help and patience next week as we have our first round of STAAR testing for fourth and fifth grade. On Tuesday and Wednesday, March 28 and 29, we will be closing Boone to all visitors for all grade levels for the entire day. We will be using just about every available space in the school for testing with the classes and small groups and want to make sure we provide as quiet and as undisturbed of an environment for all the students testing that we possibly can.
You may bring your child into the cafeteria before school for drop off as always, however, we do need to ask you to then leave. We are asking that you not escort your child to class, regardless of the grade level, for those two days. We will not be able to allow any visitors at lunch, or in the classrooms those days as well. (You may need to prepare your child for this prior to school on those days.) If you need to pick your child up during the day for any reason, please come directly to the office and we will then send for your child. In addition, if you do have a student in fourth or fifth grade, please do not schedule any appointments during the school day for these dates. Dismissal will go on as normal.
I know that this is an inconvenience and imposition for many of you and your established routines. Please understand that we only do this during these two testing days in March and the three testing days in May. I greatly appreciate your understanding and cooperation with this policy during this very important time for our students.
Salad Bar Coming to Boone Cafeteria!!!
We are excited to announce the addition of a made-to-order salad bar to the lunch menu on Thursdays beginning March 30th. We will start with our fourth and fifth grade classes and depending on how things go, we will gradually add additional grade levels. However, there is no set timetable for adding the new grades.
Fourth and Fifth grade students will have the opportunity to choose up to 4 vegetables and 1-2 ounces of protein (meat or meat alternative), served on greens, with a grain option on the side. Seasonal vegetables will be rotated throughout the year, with featured produce from local distributors and farms like Farm to Table and Johnson’s Backyard Garden. The cost for the salads will be the same as the regular lunch price and will be a replacement for the normal entree offering. The two salad types will be the Chef Salad and the Fiesta Salad. Fliers for these salads are included with this newsletter. This is a great addition to our already wonderful cafeteria menu and is yet another way we are providing healthy alternatives for our students, as we work to help them develop healthy eating habits.
