So long and farewell for now!
As we get ready for school to start and summer winds down, we want to thank our amazing directors, staff, teachers, campers, and families for a truly amazing and unforgettable summer. Summer Camp 2020 was a huge success despite all odds. We here at The Connection want to wish you all a safe, happy, and healthy year and we can't wait to welcome you back next summer!
Week 9 - What to Expect
Guppies:
After 8 weeks of learning, playing and kindness we are now officially a Guppy family!! Each one of us has made summer extra special and helped to create lots of fun memories!! We will wrap up this week with lots of “family” fun as we say so long until we meet again next summer!! :). Please remember to always be kind and loving Guppies!
Yoga and STEM AM:
For the final week of camp, we will do an experiment involving our sense of smell. We will play our favorite games, we will blow bubbles, and we will do yoga as usual!
Sports AM and Sports/Nature PM:
Week 9 and we're feelin' fine! This summer was full of fun, teamwork and sportsmanship! We learned soccer, baseball, elementary games, backyard games, kickball and wiffleball too! Water play was always a blast and Mr. Val's "carwash" was the BEST! It was great to come together each day as a team while exercising and making great memories! Have a great school year and see you next Summer!
Dance AM:
We will be learning the basics of Hip-Hop/ Jazz technique, playing movement/ memory games and learning a short routine! Younger campers will also be exploring improvisational dance and creative movement, as a way to develop coordination and musicality.
Gymnastics AM & PM:
AM- This week in the gym we will be working on our climbing skills! An obstacle course will be set up to work on these skills along with our jumping skills.
PM- This week in the gym we will be working on our tumbling skills used in acrobatics! Our warrior group will be working on climbing skills on our rock wall and obstacle course.
STEM (ages 3-5) PM:
Have you ever wondered why an apple turns brown when you leave it out? Campers will be exploring how an apple oxidizes in the air. They will also be exploring how the apple reacts with different liquids!
STEM (ages 8+) PM:
This week in STEM may be short, but we’re still racing to go! Featuring balloon cars, modular circuits, and everyone’s favorite: homemade ice cream. Join us for the final hurrah of the summer as we mix mechanics, electronics, and tasty treats.
Art AM & PM:
For our short but final week of camp, our campers will be learning about pastel artists, painters and sculptors. They will be using pastels, paint and canvases and also create sculptures out of thick plates, pipe cleaners and construction paper!
Great Outdoors (ages 3-5) PM:
For Week 9, our little campers will create their very own rock friend! They will go out and scavenge for rocks, then paint and decorate them. As we wait for them to dry we will do some more garden yoga!

Reminder: This is the last week of camp and it is a shortened week. Camp will be held Monday through Wednesday.
Week 9 campers will enjoy water play outside on Wednesday. Campers should wear their bathing suits to camp and bring a change of clothes and a towel. Remember to put sunscreen on at home before arrival!

Week 8 Update!
Week 8 - What to Expect
Welcome to Week 8 of The Connection Summer Camp! We are so happy you are joining us this summer and we are looking forward to a great week ahead. Here is a little bit of what to expect this week:
Sports AM & PM:
Ok, Connection Campers! This week I hope you are ready for our Flag, Fit, and Fun Week!!! We will play some flag football, capture the flag, and work on our fitness! But most importantly, this week will be a ton of FUN!
This week the Guppies will have the most "rainbowtastic" week ever as it is "Over the Rainbow" week! We will make lots of colorful art projects, read colorful stories and have a special rainbow dress up day! We are "over the rainbow excited" for this most special and colorful week! :)
Yoga/STEM AM:
Week 8, we will be going to visit Disney World. We will take a virtual trip there and we will talk about Walt Disney and how he created the company. We will talk about the roller coasters over there and how they work. Of course, during the week we will practice yoga and play some games.
Art AM & PM:
In summer fun the kids will be making Japanese inspired fans! In Art Design the kids will be making Jewelry with different types of beads. ( necklaces, bracelets, and Keychains)
Inspired Artists (6-7) PM:
Campers will be creating canvas art by pouring paints into a cup and tipping it onto a canvas. They will be able to use their creativity to choose their colors and watch it pour onto the canvas and tilt it to fully over it.
STEM (ages 8+) PM:
This week in STEM we’re gearing up with cars, roller coasters, and trebuchets as we learn about propulsion, gravity, and launch trajectories. Join us as we also explore the low tech world of paper folding and the high tech world of robots and coding!
Theater Camp PM Wk. 8:
The campers are gearing up for our show 'Descendants the Musical' at the end of the week. We will be finalizing choreography, adding costumes and props into the mix, and doing full runs of the show! Break a leg on Friday campers!
Gym AM & PM:
AM - This week in the gym we will be playing parachute games and activities! We will use our giant parachute to build an obstacle course along with singing songs.
PM - This week in the gym we will be practicing our ninja skills on our warrior course. A variety of different obstacles and blocks will be used to create a large course filled with jumping and climbing!
Week 8 Welcome - 8/17 through 8/21
Welcome to The Connection Summer Camp Week 8! While we all adjust to a new normal, The Connection is looking forward to a fun and safe week with our campers. We are committed to providing a safe and enriching summer camp experience, critical after so many months of social isolation.

Week 7 - What to Expect
Sports AM & PM:
Take me out to the ball game, take me out to the park! :) This week in Sports we will focus on baseball, softball and wiffleball! We will learn about the positions on the field, how to throw and catch a ball and how to swing the bat! Week 7 will definitely be a "home run" full of fun and good sportsmanship! Batter up!
Guppies:
5....4...3...2...1.... BLAST OFF! This week the Guppies will be having some out of this world fun during our Space Adventure Week! We will have lots of fun making rocket ships, aliens, and astronauts while "visiting" and exploring a new planet each day! We promise to be back to Earth before the end of our camp day! :)
Yoga & STEM AM:
This week we will be exploring outer space! As usual we will start with yoga and play some space related games. Then we will take a virtual trip to space and learn how astronauts live up there. At the end of the week we will finish with Legomania and see who can build the best spacecraft!
STEM (ages 3-5) PM;
We’ve seen how Coke and Mentos react together, but have you ever wondered what else reacts with Coke?! Campers are about to see how different the different ingredients in different candy reacts with Coke to inflate a balloon!
Great Outdoors PM:
In Great Outdoors this week campers created rock sculptures. Using model magic as an adhesive and various sizes of rocks, campers were able to express their creativity while learning about the different properties of rocks!
Gymnastics AM & PM:
AM: This week in the gym we will be working on jumping skills! We will use the tumble track and mini trampoline to practice our skills.
PM: This week in the gym we will be working on our balancing and tumbling skills. We will practice these skills on our obstacle course and balance beams!
Art AM & PM:
This week in Summer Fun, our campers will be designing their own aliens made with different materials. For our afternoon campers, they will be creating various props and sets for our Descendants Theater Camp show!
Creative Kids (ages 3-5) PM:
Children will be creating individual and group artwork following a Summer of Love theme. Through active movements, children will incorporate both gross and fine motor skills such as throwing, running, and squeezing to create their colorful works of art!
Theater Camp PM:
For Theater Camp we will be singing, dancing & acting the afternoon away, preparing for Descendants the Musical! We will be holding auditions on Monday for our campers casting the show and starting rehearsals!
Week 7 Welcome - 8/10 through 8/14

Week 6 Camp Update
Today is Wacky Day and we can't wait to see what our creative campers came up with! Stay cool, friends!
Week 6 - What to Expect
Guppies:
Week 6 in the Guppies is going to be a real splash- as we celebrate Under the Sea Week! We will be making fish and jellyfish crafts and having a blast with water play fun!
Yoga/STEM AM:
This week is going to be all about animals! We will practice animal yoga positions and we will play games like shark attack. We will have a unique virtual trip to the bottom of the ocean and we will also learn about Peppa Pig!
Sports AM & PM:
This week our sports fanatics will be focusing on "kicks and sticks." This means the campers will be working on stick handling of lacrosse and the fundamentals of soccer!! It should be a great week of skills and fun!
Art AM & PM:
During summer fun the kids will be making cards for a hero/someone they look up too in their life! In Fine Arts Camp the kids will be learning different drawing techniques while using pastels.
Gymnastics AM & PM:
AM -This week in the gym our campers will be participating in relay races and games that will focus on gymnastics skills and teamwork!
PM - For the afternoon in the gym, our campers will learn a variety of different tumbling skills used in dance and gymnastics! Our warrior campers will focus on speed in the obstacle courses and relay races that will be set up.
Hip-Hop Flip Flop PM:
For our 3-5 year old campers, this week they will learn dance skills and basic gymnastics, as well as participate in creative movement activities and dance games! Campers will also learn a short, upbeat routine that incorporates their dance and gymnastics skills.
Figure It Out PM:
Campers will focus on teamwork this week and work together to solve various riddles and challenges. We will be going on an egg hunt and must decode the challenges in order to seek out the final prize!
Great Outdoors PM:
This week we will be diving down into the deep blue ocean. We will learn all about what we find at the beach and in the depths of the ocean world! Campers will use their creativity and imagination and make their very own colorful fish.
STEM PM:
Winter is coming! Campers will be making it snow at camp by creating their own snow dough! Get ready for a little blizzard!
Acro
This week in Acro we will focus on flexibility, strength, balance, and tumbling. Some skills we will be working on are bridges, handstands, cartwheels, splits, leaps/jumps, round offs, and rolls - it will be so much fun!

Week 5 - What to Expect
We have a great week lined up for your camper. Here is a little of what they can look forward to!
Dim the lights and grab some popcorn, it's Carnival Week in the Guppies! We will be creating trapeze clowns and fun crafts. A good time will be had by all! Grab your ticket for the Greatest Guppy Circus!
Gymnastics AM & PM:
AM: This week in the gym we will be working on our climbing skills! We will use a variety of ladders and obstacle courses to practice our skills.
PM: Our Warrior campers will use our rock wall to help them build strength. They will work on climbing skills on a variety of different obstacle courses!
Sports AM & PM:
Calling all Olympians!! The Connection's 2020 Olympics are here! This week we will have fun in the following events: Speed Skating, Ring Toss, Javelin Throws and Tube and Ball Relay. We are all gold medalists as we will work together to cheer each other on and practice our good sportsmanship! GO TEAM CONNECTION!!
Yoga and STEM AM:
Here we go, week 5! On Monday we will do yoga as usual. We will continue the week with relay games, playing with Legos, and we will learn about water with experiments such as dancing raisins!
Nature PM:
For week 5, we will be learning all about birds! Campers will be making their very own bird feeders that they can hang in the garden at The Connection. We will also spend some time bird watching and learning about all the different birds we see. Campers will also get to use their creative skills and make their own handprint birds!
The Great Outdoors PM:
This week campers will be making weather mobiles! They will be recreating their favorite weather scenes- rain, snow, rainbow, etc. This will be a super fun way to learn about weather!
Art Design PM:
RIBBET RIBBET! Campers will be creating a frog baseball cap. They will use their creative thinking and fashionista skills to design a baseball cap to look like a frog!
Art AM & PM:
In Summer Fun the kids will be painting a picture of Minnie Mouse or Mickey Mouse! For afternoon camp, campers in Fine Arts camp will be doing a beach-themed painting on canvas!
Dance
In Dance this week, campers will learn and strengthen their Jazz technique, improve flexibility and coordination skills, build strength and endurance, as well as explore creative movement. They may also explore the Elements of Dance and choreography!

Week 4 - What to Expect
We have a super fun schedule of activities for our campers this upcoming week!
Here is a little sneak peek of what we have planned:
Guppies:
The magic of Disney is upon us as we enter week 4 of the Guppies! We will use our imaginations to pretend we are at Disney World while making fun Disney themed crafts! Keep your eyes peeled for Sully, Mickey, Minnie and Olaf to come home with your Guppy on Friday!! - Miss Amy & Miss Christina
Yoga/STEM AM:
Here we go, week four! As usual, we will start with yoga, and then we will continue to play some games, such as four corners for this week. Then we will do a new activity, Bubblemania, where we will experiment and make our own bubble solutions and then test them out! - Miss Jana
Dance AM:
This week we will be working on our movement memory and rhythm with the game ‘Rhythm Again and Again.’ We will also be learning the basics of Tap Dance (heel dig, toe tap, shuffle, falap, stamp, stomp and hop); we will be combining these steps in combination! - Miss Taina
Gymnastics AM & PM:
AM: This week in the gym we will be working on our strength! We will use the bars to work on swinging and pushing ourselves off the bar while using our arm strength.
PM: - Our afternoon campers will practice their flexibility, strength and balance in the gym this week. Campers will learn new skills and work on their tumbling as well! - Miss Kierstin
Sports AM & PM:
Calling all Backyard Gamers!! This week we will have a blast playing traditional backyard games such as Cam Jam, Frisbee, Corn Hole, Washers and Bocce Ball. A great time is going to be had by all as we will work together as a team! Three cheers for the Connection Sports Campers!! Hip, hip, hooray! Hip, hip, hooray! Hip, hip, hooray! - Coach
Creative Kids PM:
For week 4, campers will be making their favorite snowman who is always worth melting for! They will bring Olaf to life by constructing him out of simple household items. - Miss Michelle B.
Nature PM:
This week campers will get to explore the nature around them! We will be learning about the different types of trees we see at camp, as well as the different parts of a flower. Campers will get to explore the garden and see if they can identify each part of the flower. Campers will also get to collect fallen leaves and twigs and use their imagination to make their very own nature creatures!

STEM PM:
Campers will be exploring their creative side and decorating coasters. Campers will use rubbing alcohol-ink and create a design on coasters to use for their beverages at home! - Miss Maria
Art AM & PM:
For camp week 4, our campers will be doing an ice cream inspired project using paint and shaving cream! In Art Design the kids will be making t-shirt tote bags and decorating them the following day. - Miss Brianna

Week 3 Wrapup
We had a terrific week here at The Connection Summer camp! The weather was warm and we were able to have some days where we played in the water! We also had some special visitors on Thursday for Superhero Day. Thank you for dressing up!
Here is a little bit about what each group did this week:
Guppies:
Week 3 was a blast! We learned about "Heroes" such as firefighters, police officers and hospital workers. We also learned that we have super powers to be kind and caring friends! - Miss Christina and Miss Amy
Art AM:
This week in Art for Summer Fun the kids made crafts inspired by animals! Each camper used paper plates, feathers, and more to design their own Peacock. - Miss Brianna
Dance AM:
In dance for Week 3 we learned to embody emotions, and create choreography through an activity called Moving Vocabulary. We also learned the basics of Ballet/Jazz dance technique! - Miss Taina
Yoga & STEM AM:
For Week 3 of summer camp we started with yoga! We continued with some games and playing with legos. This week, I will take my campers on a virtual trip through caves and we will make baking soda crystals! - Miss Jana
Gym AM & PM:
For morning gymnastics this week, we worked on our balancing! We practiced walking on the balance beams and learning new skills. For afternoon gymnastics during week 3, our warrior campers learned a variety of agility skills. They will run, climb and build strength on our warrior equipment! - Miss Kierstin
Sports AM & PM:
Play Ball! This week in Sports we focused on teamwork, cooperation and having fun! We learned the games of soccer and kickball while focusing on dribbling, passing and fancy footwork! This was a great way to "kick" week 3 off! - Coach
STEM 5-7 PM:
For week 3 campers created their own super bouncy balls! They saw how glue and borax react together. Campers will be able to see how high the ball bounces when they throw it towards the ground. - Miss Maria
STEM 8+ PM:
For week 3 afternoon STEM, our campers constructed Newton's Cradle to demonstrate conservation of momentum and energy. They explored Newton's Laws of Motion, while making a series of pendulums out of popsicle sticks, marbles and string! - Miss Michelle B.
Mini Explorers PM:
One fun activity we did this week in Mini Explorers was create kindness rocks! Campers found rocks and painted them with bright colors. Then campers drew what kindness meant to them (smiley faces, rainbows, etc.). - Miss Molly
Sports PM:
This week, campers got to work on their soccer skills through fun and exciting games. They learned how to kick with the inside of their foot and pass with accuracy. They also got to use their creative skills and make their own soccer balls! - Miss Callyn

Week 2 Wrap Up
We had a fantastic first week of camp, and we hope your campers did too! It was a very busy week and here is what we have been doing:
Dance AM:
" This week we worked on developing coordination and musicality with a fun dance to Billz (Kidz Bop). We also played theater listening, storytelling and team building games including What Happens Next?, Shazammm!, Mind Meld and Jellybean." - Miss Taina
Gym AM & PM:
“We did a fun series of obstacles and stations including the tumbl trak with the Guppies as well as the other kids. They definitely surprised us with their skills and abilities!” – Mr. Anthony & Miss Kierstin
Yoga AM:
“The first week of camp went really well! We practiced yoga, played games like hot potato, and at the end had a Lego mania.” – Miss Jana
Guppies:
"We had a roarin' safari week in the Guppies! We used art supplies to make tigers, parrots and lions! We even went on a pretend safari looking for animals with our binoculars and safari hats!" -Miss Christina & Miss Amy
Art AM & PM:
"In morning art, we colored a coloring page of a bird. We used a piece of construction paper and made it into a fan to use as the bird's wings which we poked through the coloring page. It came out really pretty! For afternoon art, we made paper bag sculptures. The campers decorated paper bags to look like houses. They used construction paper to make windows, a door, a roof and chimney. It came out really cute and the campers enjoyed it a lot!" - Miss Stephanie
Sports AM & PM:
"For morning sports, we did various relay races using hula hoops and sponge balls. For afternoon sports, we did freestyle cornhole and freestyle bocce ball in the side yard grass. The campers are really enjoying sports with Coach!" - Coach
Nature PM:
"For afternoon nature, we scavenged for fallen leaves around camp and used them to create little bug characters. Campers had so much fun using their imagination to make their own little outdoor friends!" - Miss Callyn
STEM Ages 8+ PM:
In afternoon STEM, we did the egg drop challenge with the 8+ group. It allowed campers to think ahead so that they prevented the egg from breaking in the structure. It helped them to learn from each other so that they know for the next time what they should do to prevent the egg from breaking. They really loved it!" - Michelle B.
Great Outdoors PM:
"In the great outdoors this week, campers got to decorate and construct their own paper kites and learn about how they interact with the wind and air around them. They had so much fun!" - Miss Molly and Mr. Daniel
STEM Ages 6-7 PM:
"In STEM this week, we made magnetic pulleys. When they placed a magnet inside of it, it would pick up anything metal! I think it's really cool to help campers learn about magnetism and simple machines. They really had so much fun playing with the magnets!" - Miss Maria
