Padbury Catholic Olives
6R and 6L went olive picking at the olive trees behind the school hall. Every student in 6R and 6L participated in picking the olives. We were were given four tubs to fill with green fat Italian olives. Each tub was filled just over a quarter full. After picking for around half an hour, we made our way down to the chicken coop. A few people were asked to take all the stems and leaves out olives. Once most of the leaves and stems were out, we rinsed the olives and started making the brine. Mr Randazzo taught us how make the mixture which contained salt and water. We used an egg to measure the salt before combining the water with the salt. Before we could put the olives in, we had to wait for the salt to dissolve. After all the salt dissolved it was time to put the olives and brine into our jars. We were each asked to bring a 500ml jar to fill with olives. Finally we filled our jars with brine and olives , then made a plastic seal. All of us walked back down to the classroom and made our labels to stick on our jars. We were so excited to eat our olives but were told that it would take 3 months. Our teachers took all of our jars and kept them in the store room.
We are so excited for our time to come when we can finally eat our delicious olives. After around 4 months, we finally received our Olives. Some of the jars had biproduct in it and some didn’t. Today on the 12\8\19 we get to finally bring home our Olives, wash them, season them and then eat them.
