Introduction
The musician I picked was Brenton Wood. One of his biggest albums is called “18 Best”. The genre of music is soul and R&B. I grew up listening to this kind of music and when I first heard it I loved it so much. It just clicked with me I thought it was really good music compared to today’s music.
Musician/Band Background
Brenton Wood’s real name is Alfred Jesse Smith but they say he was influenced to take the name from where he grew up. Most of his music was listened to in the 1960’s so today not a lot of people listen to it now. His other albums were “Gimme Little Sign”, “Baby you got it”, and “Come Softly” which were also big hits. Todays songs are more about drugs and drinking, but in R&B it is mostly about love. Brenton Wood would mostly sing about love. Music has changed through out the year and I feel like some of it is irrelevant.
Album/Song
His theme was more of Love, he did a lot of soul that had a lot of feeling. I think that the lyrics have to do with past experiences. Like relationships that have gone good or bad. I really like his lyrics and I think a lot of other people can relate to what he says.
“I’m not the same fool you knew that couldn’t help himself and followed you around like a dog”
Impressions and Opinions
I think the 18 best were the ones to stand out because they were compiled from different albums into one album. “I think you got your fools mixed up” has the best quality because it has meaning to it. “This love is for real” it’s more of a slow song, which doesn’t get the listeners into it. “This love is for real” it is still a good song but it just isn’t like the music he made before. It still stood out from other albums from the early 2000’s.
Overall Rating and final comments
I would give it a 10/10 because all of those songs are my favorite songs that he has made. This music was made way before my generation but I love his music and I still listen to it to this day. If you listen to "oldies" then i would recommend this because his one of the biggest artist listened to in that genre. This music has been listened to for generations and it'd be listened to more because of how amazing Brenton's music is.
