Curriculum Corner
This week we began our persuasive essays. We learned a prewriting technique called boxes and bullets and today we turned that prewriting into a thesis statement. We will be working on our supporting paragraphs in the coming weeks!
Reading
We are continuing our unit on traditions this week. It was a lot of fun hearing about all of your family traditions last week! Along with the theme of traditions, we will reading biographies and focusing on the skills of main idea/detail and author's purpose.
Language Arts
- We will begin learning about verbs this week in grammar.
- Wordly Wise 5 C&D is due Thursday, Lesson 5 test Friday.
- We had some technical difficulties with the Mountain Language website last week, so we began this week. The first one we did as a class and it will be kept in their Language Arts folder so they can refer back to it. Starting next week, these will be part of their language arts grade.
- Spelling quiz Friday.
Indiana History
We have spent this week learning about the Mound Builders who originally lived in the area that is now Indiana. If you would like to make this lesson come alive for your child, consider taking a family trip to Mounds State Park in Anderson or Angel Mounds near Evansville. We are still on track to take our test over lessons 1-4 next Wednesday.
Science
We have spent this week learning about series circuits, parallel circuits, conductors, and insulators. Your child should be bringing home a quiz after each lesson. These are not included in their science grade, but are meant to help them practice the types of questions that will be on their test and let you and your child know what concepts they should begin reviewing. We took lesson 1 last week and lesson 2 today. We will be constructing electric circuits in class tomorrow!
Math
We took our chapter 3 Math test today. Tomorrow we will go to the lab for Khan Academy and Friday we will begin chapter 4. Chapter 4 will focus on decimals: place value, ordering and comparing, estimating, addition and subtraction, money, measurement, and metric units.
Veteran's Day

- Please have your child wear red, white, and blue for our ceremony on November 11.
