Ms. Monaghan's Message - January 4

Challenge, Inspire, Empower, & Serve

Big picture

Happy New Year!

As I rang in 2019 with my family, I was overcome with how blessed I am to have a wonderful family both at home and at school. Each one of your children and each one of you are a part of my St. Patrick family, and I am grateful for you. I hope that you were able to relax, recharge, and enjoy time with your family over the Christmas break.

I don't know about you, but I am ready to get back into a routine and see those smiling faces hopping out of the cars Tuesday morning!

Kindergarten Look -and- Learn is Coming Soon!

Do you know anyone with an incoming kindergartener?

We are planning our Kindergarten Look -and-Learn and would love to have a full house! If you know a family with a student who will be entering kindergarten next year, please invite them to email me at kmonaghan@stpatrickkc.com to receive information on this upcoming exciting day!

Khan Academy

Have you checked out Khan Academy?

Khan Academy is a non-profit educational organization created in 2008 by Salman Khan with the goal of creating a set of online tools that help educate students. The organization produces short lessons in the form of YouTube videos. (khanacademy.org)

This is a great tool you can use at home to give your child extra practice or to give your child a push ahead if you feel he/she is ready! You can check it below! Just set up a free account to meet your child's specific grade level and skill level needs.

Preparing for Iowa Tests

In April, grades 3-8 will be taking the Iowa Test. This is a good time of year to be practicing sight words at home. Practicing sight words daily will increase students' reading fluency and comprehension, spelling word recognition, and vocabulary.

You can find a list of sight words in the folder below. Scroll through to find the word list that corresponds with your child's grade level.

Catholic Schools Week Mass - Sunday, January 27 @ 11:00am

I am in need of students to serve, read, and bring up gifts at our CSW kick off mass. Please see the link below to add your child's name to the list of volunteers!

St. Patrick School

The mission of St. Patrick School is to develop young men and women with active and creative minds, a sense of understanding and compassion for others, and the courage to act on their beliefs. We stress the total development of each child: spiritual, moral, intellectual, social, emotional, and physical. Encouragement is given to students to bring their lives into conformity with God's will and plan, so that He is glorified.
