Counselor's Corner
Hi Titan families!
As our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders continue with the Georgia Milestones Assessment System (GMAS), the counselors will continue to keep track of students who are on time and at school each day of testing. The students who have perfect attendance during testing will receive a special treat from the counselors. Please remind your students about this incentive so they can be rewarded after testing! We know all of our Titans will SHINE on GMAS!
You can help your children to do well on GMAS by using these test-taking strategies:
Sleep - Get plenty
Have a positive attitude
Instructions - Listen carefully
No need to stress. Do your best!
Exercise your brain - Study
Family Engagement Tips
Be patient and firm when your child tests limits
All kids need limits, and most of them will test those limits. When your child challenges the rules, stop and listen. Hear your child out. Then respond briefly with your decision: "I understand that your friends watch that show and then do their assignments, but you know our family rule: schoolwork comes first." " When your child does the right thing, offer a positive consequence: "You stuck to your study schedule all week. Let's celebrate with a pizza."
3-5
Model the way to good character
When it comes to teaching character and values, your example is the most powerful teacher of all. Ask yourself, "If my child could watch my behavior all day, what lessons would it teach?" Set high standards for your own behavior as well as your child's. Talk with your child often about the values that are important to you. Some families make values a point of family pride. "In our family, we tell the truth."
Book Mobile 5K
We are able to provide free books for our students (at very little cost to us) through the Book Mobile program, and this is the main fundraiser for the year. The school with the most participants will win a free visit from Book Mobile! Once you register, look for your name on our “I’m Booking it for the Bus” display in the front lobby.
