Message from the Principal
Good Afternoon Whispering Pines Families,
Welcome back to all after our February break. We will start the week with our Valentine's Party on Monday afternoon. This event is indoors and will be staff and students only. We will end the week with our rescheduled Boosterthon on Friday, Feb 18. The weather is looking great for this event and as long as we are able to have it outside, families will be welcome to attend!
As we move deep into our second semester "Every second counts".. We are working with your children from 8:00am to 3:00pm everyday through Community Time to build soft skills such as collaboration and relationship building, whole group instruction such as Number Corner, interactive read a-louds, phonics instruction and math lessons and the most important: small group instruction that target the specific needs of your student. If your child arrives at 8:10, they have missed Community Time and breakfast. If we are able to get them breakfast then while they are eating they are missing number corner or an interactive read a-louds. If they arrive at 8:20 they have missed the lesson for reading or math or worse small group instruction. I know it can be challenging when our middle school starts later than our elementary and it can be difficult to manage so we appreciate it when our parents make it a priority to get their children to school on time and even a bit earlier if they are eating breakfast and leave them the entire day. Thank you for partnering with us to insure that Every Minute Counts!
Thank you,
Wendy Anaya, Principal

CAMPUS UPDATES AND REMINDERS✍
DISMISSAL REMINDERS
Please remember that the front entrance is for Daycare and buses ONLY. We will redirect you to the car rider line. When parents come to pickup their "walker" in the front it clogs up the area and the buses and daycares can not get through.
TARDIES AND ABSENCES
We have many children continuing to arrive after the tardy bell and are missing instruction. Please bring your children to school by 7:45 am if you want them to eat breakfast and leave them the entire day so we can insure they are receiving instruction in all content areas. When they arrive at 8:30 they have missed a lesson. Thank you!
MEETING WITH TEACHERS OR PRINCIPALS
While we try our best to meet with parents for situations that require immediate attention, we are not always available because we are supporting students as they learn and grow. Please contact your teacher directly to set up a conference or krose@humble.isd to schedule a meeting with administration.
BREAKFAST IN THE CLASSROOM
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get your child to school by 7:45 if you would like them to eat breakfast! We are serving all children breakfast this year. If you want your child to eat at school please get them here by 7:45am so they have time to eat their breakfast before we start class at 8:00. We have many students coming right at 8:00 and then wanting to eat breakfast. We don't want them to miss instruction time.
DONATIONS TO THE PANDA MART
Our children all love the Panda Mart! Panda Bucks are like gold and they earn them through great behavior and great work and showing Panda Pride. However we could use your help. We can't pay for these items through Title 1 funds so we rely on our teachers and families to make donations. Please check out the link to the Amazon Wish List for items you can donate to the Panda Mart. COME ON....HELP A PANDA OUT!
NEWS FROM NURSE LINDSEY
A week-long break from school is the perfect time to get a student's hearing and/or vision checked. Especially if you received a referral from the nurse!
If your student tests positive for COVID-19 please go on the HumbleISD website, click on the COVID-19 dashboard and complete the Student Self Report link. This helps to notify close contacts from their class so they can be on the lookout for symptoms.
BOOSTERTHON
Our Panda Palooza kicked off and we are thrilled about this year’s program!
This year, our entire school is raising funds for Equipment for our new multi-purpose room and flex space. Our goal is to raise $10,000, and, we’re inviting YOU to help! You helped us reach and EXCEED our goal. We have raised $12,216 so far. We will be extending donations through this next week and the kids will be able to enjoy the Obstacle Course on Friday, February 18th.
Thank you for supporting our school We can’t wait for your Panda Palooza happening on February 18th!
Counselor Corner:
Check out our Counseling 3rd Quarter Newsletter. This will give you information on our guidance lesson and the Great 8 Skill for these 9 weeks, Goal Directed Behavior. Here is a way that you can support this skill at home by reviewing your child’s grades in HAC for grades 3 through 5 and identifying what they can do to improve their grades. For students in grades PK-2, review and set goals using the alphabet, sight word list and math facts.
February 14th - February 18th - We will have dress up days for Friendship Week. Students will have lessons each day on how to be a good friend and “Say Something” when their friends are not upholding our Panda expectations.

Library Books
Students check out library books during their library class every other week. Depending on the grade they can check out 1 to 3 books. Their teachers can also send them in the morning or throughout the day for new books. I always want students to have books to read in class or at home. One of the issues we are having is that students are NOT returning books. I know kids forget, but when books haven't been returned in months, then other kids can't enjoy that book. Students are reminded regularly to return books and we even had a fidget drawing before winter break to get books returned. Notices of overdue books are being sent out to parent emails and given to students. Please have students look for books and return them. Books like to hide in rooms, bookshelves, cars, desks, teacher libraries, and backpacks. If the student can't find and return the book(s) then they will need to be paid for. Books can be paid for at https://humbleisd.revtrak.net/Elementary-Schools-1011/Elementary-Schools-N-Z/whispering-pines-elementary/wpe-library/#/list The notice will tell you how much each book(s) is that the student is missing. Make sure you search for the book(s) because once you pay for it then it belongs to you, even if it is found!
FYI...There are 376 overdue books at this time. The cost for those books is probably around 3,000-4,000 dollars. Whew that's A LOT of money!
