Shorewood Hills Shark Tooth

November 20th, 2020

Hello Shorewood Families and Friends,

I hope this newsletter finds you and your loved ones safe and healthy. Every year at this time, I appreciate being extra cognizant of how present gratitude is in my day-to-day. That seems especially important this year. Here are some things I have been thankful for this past week:

  • Seeing the artwork our students are making.
  • The beautiful weather and being able to be outside without a coat in November.
  • The public library's new online curbside pick-up reservation system. No more needing to call and book a time!
  • The wonderful feedback I heard from staff and families about parent-teacher conferences.
  • Zoom as lifted 40-minute time limit for free accounts during Thanksgiving.

With all that there is to be thankful for, I am also mindful that we are embarking on what might be a particularly challenging holiday season. I found this article from Child Mind Institute to be helpful in knowing how best I can navigate this time with children. For example, "When children are upset about cancelled trips or not seeing cousins, it’s tempting to tell them that it’ll be fine, and that they’ll have just as much fun at home. But it’s important to validate their feelings by hearing them out. “You want to really pause and acknowledge that you’re disappointed, too, and let them know that it’s okay for them to feel disappointed,” says Berman."

No matter how you are spending our days off next week, I hope everyone has time to relax, rejuvenate and find connection with something that is important to you.

In partnership,

Anne Gillespie

Interim Principal

YEARBOOK PROJECT VOLUNTEERS

Parent coordinator for each grade level is needed.

This year our yearbook is going to use students’ virtual learning photos.

We appreciate SHES parent, Briana Burton, taking the lead to organize the yearbook publication. This project could use more help from parents, possibly to help with layout and editing of content on those grade level pages. If interested, please contact Li-Fang, ly.cover@gmail.com
