Sea World Vs. Workers World
By: Ariel Badon
Thesis:
Director Gabriela Cowperthwaite is successful in showing that sea world endangers the trainers that work with killer whales by giving examples of deaths and incidents in "Blackfish".
Deaths and Incidents.
Dawn Brancheau's Death.
Sea world demonstrates that they endanger the workers by providing deaths throughout with trainers. One of them just so happened to be Mrs. Brancheau. Mrs. Brancheau was brutally murdered by one of the whales there at sea world. The autopsy report showed that not only did she die, but she died brutally. With many broken bones throughout the body, and deformity of body parts.
Ken Peters Battle.
Ken Peters was a trainer at Sea World who was placed in dangerous circumstances for his position. This trainer was grabbed by his feet by a whale and dragged under for 15 minutes. Not only was he dragged under and considered helpless he managed to escape the whale, while escaping the whale made an attempt to once again catch the trainer but failed to do so. This incident if the trainer wasn't as calm and collected as he was probably wouldn't have survived this type of torture by the whale.
Unsupervised Worker injured.
While being provided with guidelines every work place seeks higher positions. Those higher positions make workers more vulnerable to do things that they shouldn't do to advance quicker than others. While this specific trainer was working with the whales by herself unsupervised she was dragged in the water and taken out with a broken arm, therefore making her injured on the job. Sea World endangers workers by putting them in the position they are in.
Conclusion
While Sea World may seem like an upbeat and fun environment it has dangers within. Those dangers specifically are directed towards the workers. Sea World may not be seen as unsafe to all, but evidence of deaths and incidents or accidents that have occurred show that it truly is.
