Mrs. Macchia's First Grade Class

Week September 26th, 2022

This week we are participating in Start With Hello Week created by the Sandy Hook Promise. This week is a national call-to-action dedicated to making new social connections and creating a sense of belonging among youth.

Monday starts our HELLO week and we kicked it off with this great video the students helped make. | By Justiss Elementary School | Facebook
Our Pop Pop fundraiser begins today. Information should be coming home in your child's Monday Folder.

School Picture Day is on Tuesday, September 27th! Get ready to see some great smiles. Picture package information will come home with a picture proof soon.

Friday, September 30th is Hat Day for United Way. Bring in $1 to wear a hat in school to support the United Way.

This Week:

If your child is already reached their independent reader certification, they are bringing home 2 new books from the library every day. Please make sure your child is reading their books at night and that they are ready to take an AR test in the morning.

If your child is still working toward their independent reader certification, they have an opportunity to read books in the classroom in order to take an AR test. They will also take home a reading folder with a new book and some activities to complete at home each week. A letter explaining this will be in your child's Monday folder.

Thank you for your help and support as we work together to create strong readers!

Students will determine the purpose for reading and writing while also making connections. Connections include text to self, text to text, and text to world connections.

Throughout the week we will read many books. Here are a few books we will read this week.

This week we are focusing on making text to text and text to world connections in our journal entries. We are also practicing how to write a complete sentence.
