Home Support During e-Learning
Hello Olson Families,
The Olson staff would like to offer our continued thanks, appreciation, and admiration for the ways you are supporting your children during this time of e-Learning. We know it is not easy and are here to help in any way we can. If your child is having a hard time settling into a routine, don't hesitate to call your child's teacher or the office so we can work together to create a plan or offer some tricks and tips.
Mrs. Zeh, one of Olson's social workers, shared her virtual office on Class Dojo on Friday. There are many wonderful resources for students and Mrs. Zeh's ability to make her Bitmoji office feel like her real office is quite impressive! Here it is again: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1BaIPJjRLcxL-qtI2jS7YEa2LLWszzPCDYXNTsz_HIQo/edit?usp=sharing
Just in case you missed it the first time, please be sure to take a look at the District 200 Elementary Remote Guide. The guide will give you an overview of what our remote learning will look like.
Finally, the office is making attendance calls if your child is marked absent at the beginning of the school day. Teachers also take attendance at many other checkpoints throughout the day to ensure that students are attending their whole class and small group Google Meet sessions. Attendance continues to be very important, even during e-Learning. Children should be attending school from 8:00-2:10 and have the option to attend their teacher's office hours from 2:10-2:30 if they have questions. If you know of any absences ahead of time, please call the Attendance Line at 815-337-8620.
Thank you,
Stephanie Watson

Olson Parent-Teacher Organization
Thank you to the Olson PTO for donating money towards art and STEM materials for the student Learning Kits! As soon as these items come in, we will have the kits ready to distribute. Mrs. Watson will give parents the pick up date as soon as possible. The PTO's generous donation helped us make our kits even more useful and engaging.
The PTO has thoughtfully planned fundraisers that will work well with the current times and social distancing regulations. We have decided that Dining Nights are a wonderful way to earn money for the school and give the adults at home a break from cooking! The first Dining Night is this Wednesday, September 2nd at Culver's from 10am-10pm. Please show this flier or mention Olson Elementary School when ordering.
The next PTO meeting is the evening of Monday, September 14th and will be held over Google Meet. All are welcome! If you have any questions for the PTO, you can contact them at Olsonpto@gmail.com.
e-Learning Tips
Some ideas so far include:
*clipboards: if your child likes to sit on the floor, that's fine. Just make sure they have a hard surface, like a clipboard to write on
*deflated beach ball: create your own wobble stool by deflating a beach ball and having your child sit on it to get some of their wiggles out
*pillow: no, not on a bed, but rather on a hard chair. It's hard to concentrate when your body is sore
*beds: use a chair or the floor whenever possible. It's easy to fall asleep when in a bed
*siblings: whenever possible, make sure siblings stay out of each other's Google Meets.
