Week of March 22, 2021

Dear Families,

We are so excited to have the students coming back on campus soon! This week is Teacher Preparation Week as we prepare our classrooms and lessons for In-Person Instruction. Be advised that TK-1st grade students will be on a shortened schedule for live instruction this week (see the class weekly planner for details). Letters with the cohort assignments and start and end times for TK-1st grade classes will go out tomorrow during distribution. Those who do not come for pick up will receive the letter via email later in the day. For 2nd - 6th grades, emailed letters will go out on Friday, March 26.

Information about our school's plan for arrival and dismissal, as well as the process for staying safe while on campus will be sent to you this Friday, March 26. It will include the details on screening and temperature checking before entering classrooms and show our school's signage and arrows to ensure safety protocols are easy to follow.

The week of March 29-April 2 is Spring Break! We hope you all have a wonderful week off and look forward to the return of our TK-1st graders the following week.

Mr. J's Academic Coordinator Update

Hi Families,

Trimester 2 report cards were sent out on Friday.

If your child does not have a district Chromebook, it will be imperative that they have one as we begin state testing. We do have extra Dhromebooks in the office but I recommend you call in advance just to be sure. We are due to begin the SBAC assessment in mid-April.

Thank you to everyone that has sent in pictures for the spirit days! This is one way we are trying to maintain connection and community, so it is appreciated. This week is Mar Vista gear/merch day. Students can wear their Mar Vista hats and shirts and send in pictures to me to be featured in the Mar Vista News (and possibly the yearbook)!

Students will be continuing unit 6 in our language arts curriculum, Benchmark, this week.

From MV Alum Iman Moshari: Victory Veggies needs your help!

Many members of the Santa Cruz community have gone hungry due to the brutal-ongoing of the Covid-19 Pandemic; during all this the Second Harvest Food bank is experiencing record high demand throughout Santa Cruz county.

Victory Veggies receives fresh produce at a Covid-safe location on our set date and location every Friday from 5-7pm at Anna Jeans Cummings Park. The collection site is contactless and if you need help removing the items from your car we will gladly do it for you. The produce is then taken to a larger nonprofit that helps distribute the produce to the general public.

As for volunteering, we are in dire need of help -putting up fliers, taking fliers down, and helping VV grow so that we can continue helping the community. We already received 1322.5lbs of fresh produce as of February 2021, with your help we can grow that number.

For more information and to get in contact with us check out our site at or email/message us at -IG @victoryveggiessoquel.

Only together can we continue helping and growing our community!

Read what teachers are saying...

They purchased Zearn for us and I have to say it has been a HUGE support for my math program. I also appreciate the $400 classroom funds because I have been purchasing chapter book sets for my class. I also really appreciate Ashley continuing on being treasurer with her full time job. -Miss Risa
