Principal Update 2/5/24
Good Morning Memorial Families,
We have a very busy week ahead, and it is one that I think your children will thoroughly enjoy!
Early Release Day: Today, Monday, February 5th, is an early release day for students. Staff members will spend the afternoon engaged in content professional development. Classroom teachers will continue to work on grade level teams with Clough teachers to develop our writing instruction and expectations. The results of this collaborative time together is already being carried over into classrooms as we have been implementing all school writing assessments and have developed grade level writing rubrics that will allow us to be more consistent grade to grade and classroom to classroom with our expectations.
Inspired Learning Day: Tuesday is our district's first Inspired Learning Day of the year. All students in grades 1-4 will be engaged in sessions throughout the day that they chose, in one of the Portrait of a Learner pathways. Being able to choose what they explore for the day is highly motivating, and all students will have an opportunity to reflect on how they grew as one of the PoL Superheroes to close ut their day. Students in preschool and kindergarten will also participate in Inspired Learning Day, and will spend the day exploring each of the superheroes and what each one represents. Be sure to ask your child what their favorite part of the day was on Tuesday afternoon!
Sheryl Faye Presents Helen Keller: Students in grades K-4 will enjoy a presentation by the talented Sheryl Faye on Friday afternoon when she portrays the life of Helen Keller for them in an hour long cultural arts presentation. Great thanks to the Memorial PTO for funding this opportunity once again this year.
I hope that everyone has a terrific week. Join us on Wednesday night at 6:30pm for our monthly PTO meeting in the library and be a part of bringing great programming to our school!
Warmly,
Wendy and Lauren
